Camo necessary for deer hunting?

We're talking about bowhunting, right? Otherwise, orange is derigeur where I live, required by law.

Sir, I applaud you for the proper use of the word "de rigueur", which means "prescribed or required by fashion, etiquette, or custom".

It is not often one sees such delightful manifestations of the English language... even if the word is French in origin. LOL

I wear camo. Not because it helps with vision, but because the clothes are usually designed to be moved or sat in during a hunting opportunity. Pockets are places right, and typically weather resistant. I watch for UV in my clothes with a black light, and wash them in Sport Wash, no UV, no odor and retains waterproofing.
Having said that, I arrows a mature buck at 10 yards last year in blue jeans and a dress shirt.

I tend to still hunt, overlooking a gully or trail. Deer pass by me without noticing me all the time. I wear a blaze orange toque, and whatever warm/waterproof clothing suits me that day.

The only time I spook a deer is when I move. I shoulder the rifle when I hear something coming, so as to not move when deer is in sight.

...i still hunt...wear my lucky coveralls...had 'em for decades...knees and crotch ripped out...weird ghost pattern of brown and grey...one year hunted with a friend who literally wore a white dress shirt on a lark to see what would happen...we both got our deer...he was more tastefully dressed and wins on that count... ;)

p.s. - was just reminded of a crippled ww1 vet, farmer, named luke...preferred a 1903 springfield to an enfield...driven to one of his fields on opening day that had a giant spruce in the middle of it...alfalfa all around...built a fire every morning before dawn there, kept it going all day, and just sat...warm, dry...always got his deer, always...made an impression on me as a kid...he was a great man...

Incredible. Just when I thought that intelligence was evaporating on this site, you come along and change my opinion.

I usually wear digital break up camo over top of all the layers of clothes with blaze orange over that, but it's really more to cut down on the rustling of the fabric underneath.

I hunt in army kit.. kit that works like wool pants, gortex shells... etc and the disruptive patterns can't hurt. You need to break your pattern disguise your shape and limit your movements.

Oh and above all luck.... luck is more important then anything else
