Hi everyone,

I'm shopping for a .243 to do some coyote hunting, and I'm finding the gun in both regular stocks and camo stocks - one that I'm looking at is a .243 WTF total camo (stock and barrel and all) scoped for 480.00 - which seems steep to me. Another is a Savage Axis 389.00 in camo - but I'm seeing other .243's in regular stock for cheaper. So does having a gun in camo really matter for hunting, or is it just a fad or visual appeal to the human?

Please let me know your opinions. Thanks!

I've never seen the need for a camo gun... Firstly, you pay more, and I have seen quite a few with the camo finish flaking off... And, how the heck do you oil the gun to preserve the metal if it's coated in camo? Never made sense to me...

Black synthetic is just fine...

Cheers
Jay

If you intend to call, and dress up in winter camoflauge, you can use white tape on the rifle to camo it. Be sure to use a light defuser or a sun shade to prevent glare off the scope's objective.

Great advice, thanks very much. I think you all just saved me some money!!

I've got 450.00 in my pocket and this afternoon I'm going to spend it. Hopefully not all of it!

Thanks again!

Thanks! And, although most of my guns are synthetic, my wife & I just ordered a couple Coopers & I chose to go with wood... Pics to follow, in six months or so...

Cheers

I am with Jay on this one. If you want a camo gun, just add the appropriate color whether paint or wrap it in cloth, etc.

On a completely different topic, "Poseur" and "camouflage" are derivatives from the French language.

Apply you savings from a non camouflage version and apply it to a scope.

That's what I 'm thinking when I see a camo gun......WTF!!!???

Camo is a real asset when calling in predators, and nothing wrong with a camo rifle for that, but it's probably not required as rifles tend to look like branches anyway. You could also put some sort of camo covering on it whether it's tape, burlap or some sort of gun sock thingy.

Might be a bit of an advnagtage in a waerfowl gun, not that I've noticed as I don't have one.

yotes don't really notice colour what they do notice is movement and odour
X2
Coyotes are looking for the source of the sounds they are hearing, be it a dying rabbit or a another coyote that's howling. If you aren't moving they don't care about you. And if you're playing the wind properly, they cant smell you.

Anything like Burlap painted to the colour of the surroundings wrapped around the gun to break up the reflection and outline is all that is needed. As mentioned coyotes look for movement, but it doesn't hurt to blend into your surroundings. They also focus on noise. So if your going to call yotes' in make sure you are separated from your call. May be a hard thing to do if your hunting alone. Hunting with a buddy really helps or a wirelss call. just my .02cts
