I've taken a regular run of the mill .22LR rifle and created a zombies nightmare.
(Or maybe a squirrels nightmare)

Before:
Remington 597

And after:

I stripped down my 597, cleaned every surface with acetone and hit it with the three color krylon special.
I picked up three cans of Krylon Camo paint from Canadian Tire, khaki, olive, and brown. I did one full base coat on every part with the khaki, then took some pieces of cedar to use as a template an sprayed on the olive and brown. Finished it off with a matte clear coat.

This is my first time camo painting anything and there are a few blemishes/screw ups but overall I'm very impressed with the results.

Love it or hate it, tell me what you think.

I like it. I've done similar on a couple of my guns (though not quite as good as yours to be honest!).

Looks good

Great job, looks awesome. If you do it again you should take a video of the process and post it on youtube. I'm awful for any kind of painting/drawing/art like work, and need as much direction as possible.

Also the pics make it look quite glossy even though you used matte clear coat, would you still use the same in the future?

It does look more glossy in the pics than in person, there are pot lights shining straight down on the rifle. Originally I wasn't going to clear coat it but after it was done I just didn't like how flat it was. It looked kind of cheap, and felt rough. Now with the matte clear it looks just right in person and feels good.

That is personal preference though as I'm sure some guys will like the flat rough surface better.

Don't lay down on the ground or you'll never find it again!

How did the bi-pod go on the 597 stock? Did you you have to add any nut/bolt/washer?

Lol,
The bipod just clamps on to the sling stud, and has a separate stud on it so you can still run a sling.

:) d'oh. My 597 stock never came with studs, but there appears to be a divot where one could go.

Yeah, same as mine. The stock was molded with a "spot" for the stud to thread into. Next time you have your barreled action out of the stock you can see it from the inside. I just drilled a hole and threaded the studs in.

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

I was out shooting it yesterday and it was shooting MOA groups at 150 yards, and smashing 4" clay pigeons at 200 yards no problem at all. I had a roughly 15-20kph cross wind that kept changing directions, and I was on fire with my windage holds!
I'm pretty sure it's because of the camo. :sniper:
