Decimals are already an appeasement to the metric movement.

.375=3/8
.25=1/4
.50=1/2
.33=1/3
.30=3/10
.20=1/5
.218=7/32
.28=9/32

I could go on, especially since most caliber designations are only approximate to the bullet and bore diameter in the first place, I'm surprised there isn't an SAE style designation.

I founds an old .33 Win cartridge with an EPPS headstamp. It looked like it was stamped after the fact (on a blank head). I wonder where/when they did this.

I found a company that will make me a circular text stamp to fit a casehead, and they could put a primer pocket filling nub to center it and prevent the pocket shrinking when pressed. An option if folks want to make some.

We dropped the second 6 to keep Douglas (c-fbmi) from looking like the guy on "The Great Outdoors" when he tries to say the new name.

"Three-Si-Si-Si-Si-Sixty-Six Wagner! DAMMIT!"

Actually, that might have been funny.

I suggested that a while back. Don't know what effect of machining off some Lapua head stamps, then punching out own on would be, but it seems to me it would be the most cost effective solution.

You might have a problem full length sizing, no?

It would be such a sliver I don't know if it would even make a difference.

Even 0.01" would be too much - Redding Competition shellholders vary by 0.002". At any rate I emailed Lapua again to see if their production line has eased up and to also ask about a no-headstamp version.

I'll let you all know what they say.

I read about a guy who had to custom headstamp his brass to match his rifle, as he had a wildcat and was going to Africa. It needed to match the rifle on arrival as it usually does when travelling, zero variations permitted to make sure the ammunition is for your use. This has never actually been inspected on my trips, but its the paper rule. Anyhow I do believe he just stamped over the other stamps, brass is soft and flows. If you supported the case head inside with a rod to push against (.36" max in this case unfortunately, but something), and the stamp with primer pocket support / indexing should work like a hot damn in a hydraulic press.

My email to Lapua:
Hello Janne,

You had mentioned back in April that your lines are too busy to make custom head stamps as requested in my original email. Are you still too busy? Would it be possible to get the brass without a head stamp at all - would that make the request easier? What is the cost and size of order required for such a request (either custom head stamp or blank)?

Thank you for your time.

Kristian

Their response:
Dear Kristian

Thank you for your E-mail. Unfortunately we are not able to make any special head stamps at the moment. If you would like to have Lapua head stamped cases, please contact our representative in Canada: Mr Peter Dobson, Hirsch Precision.

Best regards from
Janne

I had a friend here who had cases made to his specs and with his headstamp and name on it, but unfortunately he passed away a couple years ago and can't be asked. I do know he used a small specialty brass maker in the US and it didn't cost a fortune. Anybody know anyone at Starline or A-square. Mr Alphin must have had his brass made by a small boutique maker and headstamped to his specs.
