Hi everyone since I determined that I love to shoot my 308 it was getting expensive using mainstream projectiles. I just ordered 500 of these has anyone had any experience with the 147g? I have some Varget that I will be using for reloading. Those that have used these bullets what accuracy can I expect out of a bolt gun aka Savage Axis.

Any input would be appreciated and I will update folks once I had the chance to range test them.

The bullets will probably be the limiting factor in your accuracy. The market for these bullets is the semi-auto, which usually don't have the accuracy of bolt guns but shoot high volume. You should get roughly the same accuracy with these as the 223 guys get from the 223 campros. 1-2 moa give or take. Or roughly like bulk ammos such as PMC. Varget or any other powder suitable for 147grn or 150grn ammos will do fine.

I use them for fun plinking loads in my 300wsm bolt gun. With H4895 you can make very soft loads that will recoil less than a 308. I use them when I introduce new shooters to rifles.

I dont know the oal i just seated it to the canelure. I dont have any data either its a fairly low pressure load with reliable burning powder in that app. You could put more if you want i never tried to. In my 308 it required only a vertical scope adjustment of 1.5 inch

I would use Varget load data for a similar style / weight (jacketed, lead core, spire point, etc) and decrease starting load by a couple grains, work it up.

I emailed Xreload and the gave me 44-47gr Varget and 43-47-7 4064 for those 147gr, I have been using both loads in my M305 with great success.
 
I got exceptionally poor results. To the point there was no way I was going to waste any more time trying to find a load. I went through 70 of the 200 I bought and sold the rest.
Not worth the effort for me. If I'm going to reload it needs to be accurate.

If it's plinking ammo you're after buy Aguila and sell the brass when you're done.
 
^^ well, that's disappointing to hear. I just bought some to try because the .223 ones worked so well for me.

I'll compare them with the remaining bulk hornady ones I have, once I get my rfle
 
Update:
My projectiles came in yesterday (Friday) - will be using once fired surplus brass (Hirtenberger) which I have full sized -my primer is Federal 210M and CFE223

From the Hodgson website they list starting loads of 49.0 (2,865 fps) max load 51.1 (2,990 fps)

I took an unofficial random sample of the bullets and the weight is just over 147g length does vary however Ojive appears consistent.

A total of 119 will be loaded up (had 120 but screwed up)

My plan is to load 20 at 49.0 grain and the next 20 at 49.2 grain and so forth the last 19 will be loaded 50 grain

Update 1.0

The good news is that I didn't have to move the scope for bullet impact (3 clicks right - 2 up at 100 yards)
They shot pretty good got the occasional flyer - best 5 shot group was about 1 - 1.50 including that dang flyer that messed it up otherwise pretty close to MOA seemed to like 49.6 grains shot a 10 shot group was about 2 inches but most clustered close to each other and if I could eliminate a couple flyers probably would be impressed.

The other good news is that I found some once fired Federal brass and once fired Hornady brass 35 pieces in total - will use these to reload the Campro next time.

My impression of the bullet is that they are pretty good my next reload will use WLR primers - am going to inquire on how to post pictures on this site to add validity to my post.
