Campro 148 hollow based wadcutter

I actually just tried the Campro hbwc 148 out for the first time this Tuesday. I have been using BDX lead 148 hbwc for years in my PPC pistol.

With BDX I had been loading flush and 2.8gr HP38. With Campro I started with 3.2gr HP38 and slightly recessed below case mouth. I shot both from a bench at 24m and did basically the same groups with both loads. One of my six shot groups with the Campro was the best of the night at 2". Most of the other groups with BDX and Campro were in the 3" range (I'm not a great handgun shooter).

So initial impressions are very favorable. The best part about them is that there's no lead and lube to get in the cylinder and bind up the loading / unloading process during a PPC stage.

I use a lot of Hornady HBWC and are tack drivers out of a 14-3. Also use Campro for 357 and 44 magnums and work well so I guess I will try a box of the plated HBWC and give them a go. Thanks for the reply.

Ive loaded 2.7gr Titegroup with the crimp over the flush seated bullet. They shoot every bit as well as the speer WC that I have used before in my model 27 and python. One thing I really like about these is that they are much cleaner to shoot without the smoke and funky smell of the speer bullets.

I am extremely happy with Campro HBWC projectiles. They are as accurate as I can shoot and pretty cheap.

I had to modify my seating punch so the edge of the WC doesn’t get mashed. They load perfectly now.

I found about 10 WC have a bump on the tail. Makes starting the WC in the case mouth tricky. Nothing a small file won’t fix.

I’ll buy another box for sure.

The plated HBWC from Campro work just as good as LHBWC. A little more powder is needed to achieve the same fps.

I think one of the issues with HBWC's, lead, plated or other is cost. Shooters reload to control costs and the biggest cost on reloading today is bullet cost.
Cast wad cutter bullets are probably the cheapest cost, and even more economical if you cast your own. Swagged & plated wad cutter bullets are significantly more expensive. So reloaders have to decide realistically, which bullets gives you the best value & accuracy.

I just don’t have the time or place but mostly the time to cast though I would like to. With the Hornady swagged HBWC I found that if I keep them above flush with just enough crimp to straighten the case they out shoot me. At $36.00 for 250 they are expensive.
So most of you are crimping over the end of the Campro?
