Good Day

Anybody with a good 38 spl Bullseye/Campro (copper plated)158gr load recipe ?

Data for copper plated bullets seem hard to find.

Thanks,

Ex

I have never used 3.5 gns of bullseye with a 158 gn in the 38 spl, my old target load was 2.8 with 148 gn HBWC.........I'd try this before heading up to 3.5 gns

Douglas!..... I think this is the first time I have seen you tell someone to lower their charge..... Are you getting soft on me in your old age?.... lol

Campro does provide reloading data for powder/bullet combination @ h ttp://campro.ca/images/38-158.pdf

Min 3.4
Max 3.8

Well there ya go, I stand corrected.

I have never loaded plated bullets in the 38 and I'm sure fired in a good 357 it would easily take 5.0 grns. Bullseye is a fairly touchy powder though. Anything more than a light target load I prefer Unique, Blue Dot or Win 296 for full blown max performance.

Reviving this thread from last year.
I recently picked up a box of CamPro .357 158 grain plated FP bullets for loading in my .38 Special. I'm using loading data from Campro's website. My recipe is as follows:

  • 3.8 gr Bulleye (max load according to Campro data).

  • Mixed brass

  • COL = 1.456"

  • Federal #100 primer

  • Light roll crimp in cannelure

I've fired this load in two of my revolvers and I'm getting an average velocity of 652 FPS in my model 14 and 678 FPS in my model 686.
This is an accurate load in both revolvers but the velocity is on the low side from what I understand.

Anyone else using this cartridge, powder, bullet combination and what velocity are you achieving?
I'm also wondering the effects of going from a light to heavy crimp will have on the velocity. Anyone have a quick answer on that one?

Thanks for the info 4n2t0. According to the table you posted, my velocity is right where it should be for 3.8 gr of Bullseye. :)
