Can’t have too many BCL102 reviews

So like a little kid I battled through the snow less than 24 hrs after receiving the rifle. Here are my impressions of the BCL102 from the second order. This is a heavy rifle, but shoulders well and the overall fit and finish is tight. Out of the box I stripped out the bolt and checked everything out, lubed it up and checked the bore. That’s it. Before I hit the range I added the following:
Leopold one piece base.
Vortex Strike eagle 1-8
Fab stock
A2 flash hider
Hogue grip (hate the stock A2 grip)
Magpul stubby vertical grip
Harris bipod ( but that’ll likely be removed to reduce weight)

First shots the trigger has a pretty standard creep and a little gritty. Definitely going for a trigger tech drop in.
I used the magpul 5/20 round that came with my rifle, no issues at all. I also ran 4 10 round xcr pistol mags, again zero issues.
The temperature was around zero , no wind , but the sun was killing me and made for a challenging time.

I ran about 80 rounds of Hirtenberger, .308 (7.62x51mm), FMJ, 147 rounds which ran flawlessly and I used those to get the scope somewhat dialed in.

I let the barrel cool for 15 min then fired a five round group at 100 meters using Hornady 168 gr BTHP Match.
Five round group and my third round was a flyer which kinda pissed me off. If I didn’t have that one the group would have been pretty good.

As the barrel got hotter the groups definitely opened up

The sun wasn’t helping and I wasn’t as methodical as I should have been.

I had zero malfunctions with the rifle and had two fail to fire but I’m chalking that up to the surplus ammo as the primer strikes looked solid

I then ran another 40-50 rounds centre punching a steel plate at 200 with little effort just using the surplus ammo. Roughly 150 rounds through the rifle this morning and it was flawless. All mags worked, ate the ammo like a champ.
Overall I’m really happy with the rifle. I have to see what I can do with my BCM charging handle which doesn’t fit which is a little annoying, but I’ll work that out with a little filing. Dust cover doesn’t stay closed, I’ll figure that out as well.

Changes to be made:
Trigger
Handguard to something like an SLR.

Sorry for the crappy pics.. using my phone and the lighting was brutal.

I've got some Federal 168gr coming so I'll see how that works out.
It's wolf time.
Good range day... even in the snow.

Update Dec 28

Range trip #2

Definitely found my hunting round. Federal 168

Top group was just messing with some Hirtenberger surplus at 100 meters.
Then banged off five round group .. f’n happy with that.

Thanks for the review. Still no shipping notification on my fde rifle yet. I'll keep an eye out for ya up at the club.

You might see me around...the best part is I don't need a range for this Baby. You're more likely to see me up in the mountains than the range. This is my go to wolf/cougar rig.

Little more ammo experimentation to find the right combo and I'll be good to go. Just had a couple boxes of Federal 168 match arrive. see how those play out

May I suggest 168 and 175 smk with 44 of varget. Also 167 Lapua would be another alternative. Of course reload at your own risk, blah blah, load from low to higher etc.

Thanks... I was surprised as the weather was horrible. But that’s the weather I’ll be out in anyway, so I’m happy. Just need to dial the scope in for it’s recommended ranges and I’ll be good to go. Need to see what cabelas has for a price on this stuff as shipping it from the lower mainland sucks.

Great group with that Federal ammo.
I'm sure a BCL hater will be around soon enough to discredit your rifle and shooting ;)
