Can’t seem to find .54 muzzle loader bullets

I just picked up my first muzzleloader. It’s a Thompson Center Scout in .54 cal. I’m planning to kill an elk with it this fall, but all I can find is .54 RB.

I need .54 bullets, If anyone is able to steer me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you cast your own bullets in .54, I’d buy some from you. Thanks!

I have the Lee real and Lyman minie. The Lyman has claimed one deer so far. 54 Lyman Great Plains flintlock. Pm if your interested.

Prairie Projectiles in Alberta lists 2 .54cal bullets, a 300gr SWC and a 449gr flat nose.

What’s the twist rate?
The TC Scout came with;
1:20
1:32
1:48
And possibly more.
Knowing the twist would determine which projectile would shoot best.

You might try Precision Rifle. They don’t list a specific 54 cal high performance bullet that I could see but do mention a heavy sabot using.45 cal performance bullets . One of the shooters in our club just picked up a Scout…..very cool rifle!

Did some more checking…. prbullet.com show a 300 and 340 gr .45 cal bullet for .54 cal rifles called Dead Center . They come with a the required sabot and a free seating tool for the ramrod .They show bullets/sabots right up to.58 cal . I have 3 .54 cal rifles but shoot round ball. I looked into these some time ago as one rifle has a hunter barrel with a 1:32 twist but shoots round ball reasonably well under 100 yards. It is an interesting site for those into high performance muzzle loaders.They also show a 350 gr Extreme Big game bullet.

I just threw some .54 minis in the melting pot the other day. I can take them out and save them for you. My brother lives just outside Dawson (Arras) so I get there from time to time so can get them to you no charge if interested.

Highwood casting. ca has some muzzleloader bullets for 54 and other calibers.
They sometimes have things not on the site if you email ask as well.
