Can 22 lovel be made from 25 25 Stevens?

C an 22 lovel be made from 25 25 Stevens? Or would some one trade lovel for Stevens brass ?

It looks like they were usually made from 25-20 Single shot brass.

Well considering the .25-25 has these dimensions:

Base diameter	0.323"
Rim diameter	0.376"
Case length	2.370"

and the .25-20 Stevens Single Shot [the original case used to make 2R Lovell cartridges], has these dimensions:

Base diameter	0.315"
Rim diameter	0.376"
Case length	1.635"

then unless you have a swage die, or a loose chamber, I would say no. You'd be better off finding and using some .25-20 Stevens Single Shot brass [Jamison, Bertram, or Buffalo, NOT the almost 100 year old original brass] which was the case originally used to make 2R Lovell brass.

Sell the 25-25 Stevens and put the $ toward some cases from RMC.
I've been waiting for years for another run of drawn brass by Betram or other.
Piecing together gear to swage and turn .223.

8 thou over for the base is not much. As suggested it might already work in your chamber. If not, if you have a lathe or even a drill press and file, you can quickly remove some of that from the web for a "custom" fit.

The good thing is that the rim diameter is spot on (maybe not rim thickness however) and you have lots of length with which to work.

I would definitely sell the 25-25 brass and not convert it. You can still buy the Lovell brass from Quality Cartridge ( and a bunch of other obsolete brass ). That 25-25 brass is extremely rare.

Wow! The Lovell brass is 91.50 U.S. for 20 pieces. AND it is in the U.S., so there is an issue getting it to Canada. Rocky Mountain Cartridge makes the Lovell brass at $104.00 U.S. for 20 pieces...still in the U.S. though.
