Hey all,

My father has picked up a 307win lever action and has reloading dies for it and a bunch if brass, can you use say 150gr/180gr cup and core sp bullets or is there a "special" bullet I need. I have about 50 once fired brass available to use.

.308 diameter bullets. Keep the tubular magazine as well as cartridge length in mind when selecting bullets.

Absolutely! The bore is .308"

Quote: "It is nearly dimensionally identical to the more common .308 Winchester cartridge, the only differences being a rimmed base and thicker case walls."

The 307 Win is a flanged 308 for use in lever action rifles. You want the same bullet diameter as any other 308.

The overall length will be too long to cycle through most lever guns using bullets intended for the .308 or .30-06, even if they're round nosed. You'll need to use bullets intended for the .30/30.

Always trust your manual. It'll tell you what bullet diameter is required. Read the whole thing.
The .307 in the name is a marketing thing. And never try to figure out why a cartridge is called what it is. That'll give you brain damage.

I use the Hornady 170 grain FP I my ine since it is a lever gun I have also used the Speer 150 and 170 hot core FP but found they were quite a bit softer n found lead fragments in my meat up to 14" from poi. I haven't tried the Sierra FP in it cause experience with the 30/30 proved they were quite a bit softer yet. I also seen on another website that they found the best performance with the hornady's for shooting feral donkeys in Australia in cup and core bullets. I picked up some 140 monoflex bullets from Hornady to try in my gun but haven't got around to trying them yet. Should be an excellent bullet to use on short range moose. Hope that helps you out.
