Can a Glock be a Precision tool?

Hey GG34,

I will throw my .02 cents in on this one. I have a glock 21 (.45 Auto) and actually shoot really well with it. It's a Gen 3 that I have had for 8 years (taking a guess here). I can shoot center mass at a reasonable distance all day, but it's not what I would pick for my bullseye gun; and I have put about 7000 rounds down range.

For the most part, the gun shoots where I point it. But with the glock trigger pull, there is some inconsistency from shot to shot (at least for me). And I will add, I have done no trigger work to this firearm. When I compare it to one of my revolvers, both single and doubler action, their triggers are SOOO much smoother and predictable. Like a said, the glock shoots good, but not bullseye good for me.

I did put after market irridium sights on my glock, which helped alot.

Final answer... Can a glock be precision tool?
Of course! If theres a will theres a way, right! But I don't think that was the manufactures intention/niche. I can make a pinto into a limo too, but it's not what it was set out to be.

Thanks, unless mods are done, a stock Glock is not a precison tool.

Lets break this down so we know what we're talking about and asking for.

Glocks are a duty/service pistol. They should be capable of making effective(read 6" groups) on a man size target at nominal handgun distances, for this we will go with 25 yards. It should be able to make acceptable hits(read 12") groups on a man size target at max effective range for a handgun, lets go with 50 yards.

If you're looking for wow crazy consistency/accuracy then you won't get it from a service pistol, be it a Glock or any other make and model. The right tool for the right job.

As far as speed is concerned. That's a tougher criteria to nail down. As fast as possible while still maintaining your 6" or 12" target zone is the best case scenario. How fast is that? Depends on the shooter. There are lots of timed drills out there that are often used as a benchmark or some form of rating. However, depending on the discipline or situation, more speed and less accuracy or vise versa may be needed. The situation dictates the tactics.

Now, can the Glock meet the criteria above? Sure, I just shot 12"x12" steel plates at 82 yards(lasered) with great success. Didn't manage 100% hit ratio, probably 70% or better, but I wasn't trying too hard. Gun used was a Glock 26 with XS big dots, stock trigger.

This group was shot slow fire from 3.5 yards. Total round count is 11 including the one flyer. This group was shot by a novice shooter, on her 4th trip to the range. The black dots are 1" in diameter.

ETA: Oh and gun used was a Glock 17, stock trigger and XS big dots.

Bullsh*t. If you don't understand the fundamentals of marksmanship you can't shoot a Glock well, or anything else for that matter. Glocks won't hide/cover up your poor form. When you suck, a Glock will show you just how much you suck.

Maye I am interpreting this wrong, but that wasn't the most positive comment...

It wasn't meant to be positive, its reality, and its something many fail to realize. Not pointing fingers, but generally those who say a Glock is inaccurate are the ones who have never shot one or shoot them poorly. Fundamentals are fundamentals. Tinkerbell's post a few back illustrated this point with his comparison of a pro shooter being capable of running circles around the masses with any gun. Its easy to blame the gun/gear, I mean everyone is a natural born shooter right?

I asked a simple question, not looking for insults but id you want to throw them out expect them back.

Yeah, I see where your coming from now TDC. I mis-interpreted in the fact that I thought you were saying a glock will show how much you suck, when you said, "When you suck, a Glock will show you just how much you suck"

But what you really meant was, any gun will show how much you suck, if you suck"

Which does hold some good truth to it. That being said, some firearms are harder for certain people to shoot well with. For me, I shoot well with my glock (not amazing as previously stated), but far greater than 9/10 do with my pistol.

I figured this thread would being out the a**holes who thing there s**t dont stink. I never said i was an expert as i bet most of the loudmouths couldnt handle their own against the pros.

I fail to see the insult in my post? Just pointing out what I see demonstrated by the masses. If you took direct offense I apologize, my response was to your post, not you personally. My comments still stand.

Exactly right. Some guns lend themselves well to poor form. Short crisp triggers and heavy guns will cover up a lot of less than consistent form. DA/SA or DAO guns don't do this so well. You screw up the mechanics on a DAO and you'll see it down range, plain as day. As I mentioned, rather than accept that fact that the user needs work and likely professional training. They'd sooner make ignorant comments about how inaccurate the firearm is. Blaming gear is far easier than accepting that you suck.

I was reffering to the grammitacal errors, not the basis of your questions

GG34,

I see in your avatar you have a Sig there. Now thats a pitol I shoot well with thats a service pistol! Some people hate them, but thats a dealy piece of kit for me. I can't shoot my glock like that. BUT, my friend who shoots a Sig 226 weekly, shoots my glock better than me, and I blow him out of the water with his own Sig.

To each their own I suppose :) Everyone just has to find what works for them

I might actually be the only person who likes Glock triggers lol.

If I get to the range like I plan to this week and I remember, I'll take a pic of a target for all to see.
