can a homemade holster for traditional fast draw be lined?

Hi guys, waiting for my PAL renewal, they got it Oct 29 in Miramichi, but B.C. CFO will not let anyone else assist in approving PAL renewals so it'll likely be the six month mark before I get my new one :mad: !!!

anyways, in the meantime I've decided to maybe get serious about trying fast draw. when I get my renewed PAL, I'm going to get a new vaquero in 45 colt in 4 5/8".
was thinking that in the meantime I'd try my hand at a mexican loop rig and I'm wondering if the CFDA rules allow for lining the interior of the holster? This would allow for a stiffer holster (w/o any inserts) and also a smoother interior compared to suede as I want smooth side out.

As an CFDA ex-member I can advise to follow their way or they will kick u out from the contest. Because CFDA is a business (somebody owns it) they often change the rules to maximize the profits for the owner. Go on CFDA web page and read the rule book carefully before dip ur hand in the pocket. Trying to answer ur question I will post here some excerpt from CFDA rule book: "No Cross-Draw or Shoulder Holsters are allowed. Buscadero Rigs, Contemporary Fast Draw Rigs, or Steel Lined Holsters are not allowed."

As a general answer for everyone reading and curious to see what is all about I will say few more things.

To try Fast Draw u don't need to pay a membership to any association. Rather than spending 50$/year for membership(and not going to any competition) better spend 65$ for 50 casings special built to accept 209(shotgun) primer which will last for life. DO NOT spend ur money for fancy stuff at the beginning because u don't know if u gonna like it and stay in the sport or it was just a try. Use whatever u have in hand or if u have to spend do it spending MINIMUM possible. I know all of this coz I spent lots of money for things I shouldn't for Fast Draw but was nobody here tell me things.
To try Fast Draw all u need is is a single action revolver, any holster that will fit a single action gun, 6 shells with the primer pocket enlarged to accept a 209 primer, and a handfull of wax bullets. If no wax bullets available use foam ear plugs that u stuff it into the casing. As a target u can use whatever is cheap. Any piece of carboard will do it. I will repeat : DO NOT spend ur money for fancy stuff coz u will end up trying to sell it here on EE part of the forum and I will be glad to buy it from u at a discounted price.
Just wrap that holster around ur waist and start dry firing SLOW and easy. No rush at the beginning. I suggest using dummies in the cylinder for dry firing. Don't try to fan the gun if was not modified for that purpose coz u will ruin it.
This should be the beginning. If u guys want more then u're in danger coz once hooked is like any other addiction. It never stops and u will want more and more. I know what I'm talkin'.

For any question Fast Draw related I will be glad to help any Canadian fellow. I am so addicted that for me there is no escape. No pill will ever make me quit this thing. Right now I'm in Colorado at a friend place and since two weeks now we ONLY shoot, eat, sleep and shoot again getting ready for the first contest in April on WFDA contest circuit for 2013.
