Can a Mini 14 be a precision rifle for 300 meters?

What would be your definition of Precision?
What are your expectations/requirements for 300M accuracy?

Precision shooting with a Mini14? That's all I ever learned from the A-Team reruns! "I pity da FOO!" LOL

Sorry, I could not resist! :D

A T version might be worth consideration, depending on your definition of precision. I've seen them shoot plus or minus a minute at 100m.

"...a Mini 14 be a precision rifle..." Not without spending a pile of money. A standard Mini-14 isn't an MOA rifle at 100 using any ammo.

Hell I have one that must be 25 years old and and it shoots 10 Moa at best with good ammo. I haer the newer one are a bit better...a bit

a guy here a while ago had a mini 14 with a rem 700 barrel installed, he was claiming 1.5 moa with cheap factory ammo, probally could get it to shoot MOA with handloads and some tuning, who knows, my mini isn't even close to shooting moa, maybe 2.5 moa on good days with handloads, i can hit the 12''x12'' gong with ease, so that is good enough for me...mysticplayer lists heavy match barrels for the mini 14 but haven't heard how they shoot, buy one and let us know how they work, good luck

they originally came with a 20rd mag for a reason.

The best, best I can do with my factory original with a 3-9 on her is 6" groups at 200yards. And Im good with that.

Good enough for varmints (big or small ) in the real world. Some guys can do better with the new Mini14 target.....

My mini 14 target, with winchester white box 45 JHP shoots under a 1" group 3 shots easily. Most are 1/2"-5/8". This is at 112 yds, and several trips to the range. Maybe I got a good one?

My Ranch Rifle is one of the older ones with a 1x7 twist - damned if I can't get better than 2 MOA at 100yds with a wide mix from 55gr (yes, I know NOW that they are too light) to 77gr. Not even a good gopher gun ... have to try some heavy flat based bullets next. Only accuracy I have with it is the brass extraction - it flings 60 ft to the right and forward (easy to find, once you go out far enough ... maybe that was supposed to be a close-in defense mechanism?).

All the above is true and can also be said for the orig AR's.

Today, some AR's are produced with repeatable accuracy that rivals precision bolt rifles. And just as expensive.

Match barrels with properly cut chambers. Isolating the action movement from the barrel harmonics. Using match bullet in handloads tuned to the barrel and action.

Can it done? has it been done? Yes. But like turning a M1A into an accurate rifle does require parts and money.

I have been very curious about a Mini14 build since I can easily get Shilen match barrels. If they are willing to cut a standard 223 chamber, there is no reason why it can't shoot at least MOA.

Turn it into straight pull bolt rifle if there are concerns that the moving bits may be the cause of the problem.

I know it can be done but do you want to put in the effort?
