Can a POLY TECH. stock be painted?

I agree 4 coats would be good. I did one coat of KRYLON over primer and the stock immediately chipped while on my wall mount :(

This is the non reflective stuff I get from CT Tactical ;)

thats the exact stuff i used,, worked great, but i dont think krylon recommends using a primer ..

Used the khaki/tan "CT Tactical" paint today. After using the can and letting it dry, still seems a bit rough. Maybe I sanded with not fine enough sandpaper. Even tho I want to keep it a matte/flat finish, is there anyway to smooth and seal it? Thanks

Get some ferns grass and cedar branchs ..and a couple cut outs of a mapleleaf

I used the Krylon Camo on this USGI stock..I couldnt find clear matte spray so I used the satin finish and went over it lightly with steel wool after to get rid of the shiney gloss finish. It has held up very well with no flaking at all .

has anyone found a matte clear paint for sealing the paint?

Yup.......at Rona......Excel ColorVision Matte Clear.........Been using it for years.........

I spray an adhesion promoter before the primer............

I have used Krylon spray paint on hundreds of stocks/firearms over the years with great results......;)

i followed the instructions on this website and thread

I came out with this

and compared to the issued CADPAT, it looks like this

I know the barrel and reciever and etc... wasnt painted, I wanted a contrast between the stock and weapon. I dont think ill be taking the gun into the bush anytime soon, so its more for looks than functionality.

WHEN I get my Vortex strikefire and bushnell pistol scope (both used in the scout role), what color should i paint it to CONTRAST (ie NOT the same color as the stock. I was thinking olive will match it better than khaki/tan. Input?

Thanks!

Go to Rona and buy their house brand Matte clear laquer. It is a blueish can with RONA on the label :) it works and is outstanding on krylon, trust me. 2 coats will do and allow the works to cure for a few days. WEAR a mask as this stuff can irritate the hell out of yer lungs.

Also, is there a special way to prepare the optics for painting? Since its a lot smaller and metal (vs the stock plastic) are there any tips you can give?

thanks!

I prep by ensuring adjustment covers are tight
Make very tight fitting cardboard circles for inserting over lenses.
Automotive pin striping taped works great for masking off small areas if needed.
Wipe down with a degreaser, alchohol , laquer thinner soaked rag ect.
Light coat of krylon primer, 2 light coats desired color, light coat clear
My hunting scopes were done several years ago and still lookin good.

With gloss finish optics you may need to buff with steel wool but with matte finish optics the primer should bond very well so minimal surface prep.
