I cannot resist a bargain. I needed more 1911s like I needed another hole in the head.... but at $250 a pop, how could I say no?
The object was cheap plinkers, so here is what I did:
Installed Hogue Palm Swell grips. $15 on ebay.
Installed hi viz fixed steel sights. Front sight required milling a Colt dovetail. Sights $15 at Sarco.
Installed long trigger. $11 at Sarco. The stock trigger was a "short" model. I had to crook my finger too much and it tended to make me shoot left when shooting fast. The "long" model suits my hand best.
Did it myself trigger job. 5 pounds and crisp. Free
I have used these sights before. The front sight is taller than required, so you file it down to hit Point of Aim, for the ammo and hold you use. I will start sighting these guns in tomorrow. I have a new sight pusher ($50 on ebay) to make fine tuning the sights easy.
