I am looking for a red dot scope to put on a lever gun. This gun is light and quick and I'd like something that compliments that and I think a red dot fits the bill. I am not looking for something with alot of features, just a good quality 1x red dot with adjustable brightness of the dot and decent light transmission. I am looking to spend no more than $300. I am thinking about a Vortex Sparc. Or do you think I should scrap the red dot idea and just get a low power scope? Anybody have a recommendation? Thanks to those who reply.

I had a Sparc but actually like the 2 Bushnell TRS-25 I own more ,,,great little red dot for the money ( little over $100 )

The TRS ( the rear one) is a little smaller and sits a little lower as well.

Better than a Vortex Strikefire by a long shot. I have not compared it to a sparc but I'm geussing its similar to the strikefire. At dusk the strikefire's dot was too bright on its lowest setting which made it difficult to contrast between the dot and background. The TRS-25 goes a little dimmer and the glass is brighter and clearer, along with a smaller crisper dot makes it hands down better than the Strikefire. Again, I have not compared it to a sparc but at half the cost I wouldnt bother spending my own money on the sparc. The strikefire glass was pretty bad actually, kind of a fishbowl effect getting really distorted out to the edges. The TRS is also lower profile both in height and the fact that the adjustments are on top and right side of the body while the Vortex red dots have a big control panel on the side that hampers shooting with both eyes open. Adjustments are easier with the TRS too, especially turning on/off and adjusting brightness. Its also bright enough for any situation including bright sunlight in the winter. CR2032 batteries are cheap and easy to find on ebay, the CR2s that the strikefire take were $40 for a 2 pack at walmart. Compare to 3 bucks for 20 CR2032s with free shipping on ebay.

I have a TRS on a Marlin 1894 44Mag and it has held up fine. It actually sits a bit lower than an Aimpoint Micro. I have owned Sparcs as well, and for twice the price, I don't think they are worth it. I'd just as soon spend some more and jump up to a Micro. The on/off on the Sparc is on the side and is very easy to activate accidentally. It's also quite a bit wider. The only advantage I can see of the Sparc over the TRS is if you need the variety of risers they include, or want to mount it to any of the mounts designed for Aimpoint Micros. For shotguns, I've tried TRS and Micros, and have settled on Fastfire II. I find they 'disappear' better than the TRS/Micro in my field of view, which actually makes aerial targets sort of do-able with a RDS.
