i curently cant find any info on it but a while ago i came across info for one almost exact same as that on the internet (possibly wikipedia) and if i remembor corectly it was a 1500's-1600's hand cannon/gun commonly made in germany and france.

Over at muzzleloadingforum.com, there is a section dealing with preflintlock guns, "gonnes".
You might want to post there.
I would suggest that the type predates the fifteen and sixteen hundreds by quite a few years.

Yeah it looks somewhat similar to the Tannenberg Handgonne only shorter and with the hook, which dates presumably pre 1399 condsidering the castle it was found in was destroyed in that year. It was found at the bottom of a well in 1849 still loaded!

I wonder if it groups good at a thousand yards or so.

not really :p most being smooth bore and using a unpatched ball it will hit a man sized target at about 25 yards w:h: firing off a wall down at the enemy group it will do vary good

these things where made with 3 barrels too

these things where alot better then a bow of the time it takes years to learn how to shoot a bow when it only takes a few hours to learn how to shoot this

even a crossbow takes a little longer to teach how to use it

bows and crossbows took a ling time to make and thay needed select materials to make when the handgonne can be forged in a hour or so

the rifleshoppe has the berrels for the handgonnes and the match holders

I think their principle value was in the smoke and noise they made. Even a mediocre archer could fire several arrows effectively in the time it took to reload the hand gonne and at the short ranges such gonnes were probably used
