Can anyone taech me to make a shot load for my .45-70??

I would like my Guidegun to do double duty and have the ability to shoot the odd Ruffie i may stumble upon. My .444 would shoot .410 but my Guidegun won't.

Shot shells fired out of a rifled barrel produce patterns with big holes in them. The shot string flies in a spiral sending the shot who knows where.
I'd be looking for some Speer shot capsules made for a .45 Colt. Not quite the right diameter though. Don't ask me where to get 'em either. Epp's maybe.

I have a good recipe. It requires the following: .45-70 case primed. WW .410 plastic shot cup (wad). 12.5 grains of Unique powder. 1 .45 gas check. 5/8 oz. of 6 shot . I used a Lee Loader in .45-70 and it was easy to assemble these loads. Prime the case and add the powder. Seat the wad with a little pressure and trim away any that extends beyond the case. Add the shot then fit the gas check into the case and over the shot. I then used the
Lee Loader to crimp the round. In my Handi Rifle these loads performed as well as 2 1/2" .410 shot shells. Enjoy!

One tip: place the cupped side of the gas check against the shot. Leaves a nice finished looking round. An appropriate sized hard wood dowel makes starting the gas check easier. I did not pattern these loads . I have shot alot of grouse with at ranges up to 20 yards and they performed well. About as loud as a .410 shotgun, no recoil.
