Can anyone tell me what I have and an idea of what it is worth

Hey guys, I have come into possession of a black powder rifle of which I have no interest in whatsoever. It is labeled as a kentuckian .45, made in Italy. It is also stamped jager 16305. Please forgive my ignorance in the antique rifle area but is this an original firearm or a replica. It is in really nice shape with one small chip in the stack behind the barrel and some minor rust in the barrel due to neglect. Would anyone have an idea as to what this gun might be worth?

Your gun is a modern replica. If a flinter, it is considered antique therefore no licensing required. If it is a caplock, lic. and registration are obligatory.

Depending on overall condition, gun could go for $150-$300.00 range.

The "Kentuckian" is a replica, made in flint and caplock versions, (still being made) of an English pattern trade gun, produced by the various manufacturers of the Brescia guild of small specialty gunmakers in Brescia, Italy. I have one about 20 years old bearing the ArmiSport mark. Mine is quite a pretty gun.

The English pattern trade was one of the precursors to the Kentucky (really, Pennsylvania) rifle. The example below dates to about 1813. Both English pattern and German school designs figured in the development of the Kentucky rifle, most of which were made in Pennsylvania, and actually have no real relationship to Kentucky.
