I've been looking for a SIG P226 or P220 in the "dark elite" configuration in Canada for weeks.

Can we canadians order a pistol from the US? or would this go against our laws?

You can, but it has to be exported by a licensed business/individual. The paperwork is steep and the costs tend to be high.

Dave's sport shop at the top of the page is where you can go if your interested in going through the process

Go through Buffalo Gun Center, they do the paper work for 100 us dollars for the first pistol, and 50 bucks for any other on the same bill, only thing is you have to go there, to finish off the sale, they do not mail or ship to Canada, but will do all the necessary export paper work and also your Canadian import paper work, it's great if are close to them or if a buddy is nearby....

Buffalo Gun Center is GTG, its easy and there are no surprises.
However its cheaper if they have the pistol in stock, if they have to order it it will be more expensive.

Just thinking out loud...what if a BC person ordered from Buffalo and had the gun shipped to an FFL close in WA (say Dave's) who then drove it up to Aldergrove for $50 (I'm going by what they list as one of their services) + the FFL transfer fee (I'm guessing)? Or won't Buffalo ship to other FFL's? Does Dave's even offer that? I might have to find out...

Only thing I find with Buffalo Gun Center is he is expensive, then you have to add on the extra $100, then you have to figure in the exchange. I have found the same guns cheaper at Ellwoods, or Marstar. Just my 2 cents.

Unless it is a collector or rare firearm it is best to search Canada. I just went through the importation process with Prophet River and their fees are the lowest. But it was still several hundred dollars. And over 3 months.

If your looking to purchase a Glock 17 then Yes you are better served to buy in Canada, however if you are looking for a OD Glock 34, then BGC is the place to go since Questar and Police Ordnance don't have them or won't get them.

Don't forget they offer this on their used inventory as well. There are some good deals to be had there. Besides your warranty may not be honoured on a new purchase either. Buffalo gun centre is the next place I buy a handgun for sure. Just gotta add 70 bucks for a GD passport since the us changed the law.

Don't get "too wrapped around the axle" on the passport, in most cases a birth certificate and GOV ID will be accepted, however its "officer discretion".

Don't know if they will ship to another FFL, best is to ask them, give them a call, and best is to talk to Larry, if you can get him on the phone...

not sure what you found expensive, I saved on both of my purchases, close to 400 bucks on my first pistol and over 1200 bucks on my second one, the exchange is peanuts we are at 97 cents now, by summer, or at least by september it might be at par, and we might even be stronger than the US green back, no tax in Buffalo either, so you only pay the gst and pst, or should I say the hst soon....

lower than 100 bucks for all the paper work, cool, can you tell us how much ? do they do the export and import paper work ?

* a passport;
* a NEXUS card;
* a Free and Secure Trade (FAST) card;
* an enhanced driver's licence (EDL) or enhanced identification card (EIC) from a province where a U.S.-approved EDL/EIC program has been implemented; or
* a Secure Certificate of Indian Status.

I just read your post again, I see it's several hundred dollars, so it's not cheaper than BGC
To be fair I have not priced up the costs of driving to Buffalo from Nova Scotia and back. All that Prophet River asked for was my information, the dealer FFL, and the firearm details. Then sit tight and wait. Out of the blue Canada Post leaves me a notice to pick up a parcel. A trip to the Post Office and back takes less than 10 minutes. No time off from work, hotels or gas expenses.

Nova Scotia to Buffalo and back would not yield you any savings

if you have a friend near the Buffalo border, then this would be a good way to get your pistol from Buffalo and then mailed to you, otherwise, nope....and your way might be the better way....

for me, it's a short drive, and if I know what I want, I can call make the order over the phone, put down deposit, and wait for the call to come and get it.....

Well I was looking for a Beretta 92FS or D, they were 869.00 US, plus the 100 for paperwork,plus I still have to pay the taxes at the border,plus the exchange regardless of how close we are we still aren't par by no means at the bank. Add that all up and you are over $1000..... well I just bought one here in Canada,Ont to be specific, for $625 shipped to my door and it comes with 3 mags. I think I would classify Buffalo Gun Center a bit pricey for Canadians. Also if you go and find gun shops away from the US/Canada border you will find much better pricing, still just my 2 cents but I will continue to shop Canadian, but here is the kicker, price out a box of rounds!! I buy alot of rounds Stateside, just apply for your (fill in closest state to you) hunting permit and you are allowed to purchase ammo, mind you in small quantities as it is only for personal use but still well worth picking up a few boxes whenever there.Well worth the price of a hunting permit.

I guess it depends on what your buying, but I have not heard of too many stories where the price was higher, and anything I looked at, was cheaper, and by enough to make it worth buying there.

on 2 pistols purchased I saved over 1400 bucks

I will try to remember your Beretta next time I go down, and compare the price...

I was in the store the one time, and a guy was taking a shotgun home, he told me he saved over 3000 dollars, you can't beat that for sure

as for the ammo, yup, it's cheaper at times, more variety as well, good luck in getting 45acp here for 14 bucks a box.....
