Looking to build/buy an AR and many of the sites are US and their pricing is damn near half or less even then anyone I can find in Canada. I mean stripped lowers for 100 bucks new....

So for the most part can I buy from the states? I travel to the states enough that I could drive it back or when I fly buy it locally and ship it to myself.

Thoughts?

PS, Any chance of hell freezing over and being able to use the AR to turn gophers inside out?

The problem is, since 9/11 most parts are now illegal for export (well, they require lots of paperwork depending on the items - or they are straight out not allowed.)

You "could" go down there and buy parts to bring back... at the risk of being punished if caught. If someone mails you the items, same goes for them.

Lots of posts on this topic. It sucks.

I'm thinking of Alexl650...as I suggest that you'd better bone up on your reading before you get into the import/export business.

You better of getting a complete rifles from one of the dealer, this way you get the warranties, fitting will be alot tighter.

If you aren't familiar with the AR system, you're better off purchasing a complete rifle and becoming intimately familiar with its operation before trying to build your own. Get to know the system, then try the build.

If you have lots of time, most parts are importable, with the exception of short barrels and "tactical" items. Unfortunately, the US State Dept. has recently added to their no-no list and have tightened export restrictions on a lot of items.

In practical terms, it makes sense to either purchase from Canadian dealers, or shop the EE. In terms of logistics, you may save some bucks importing a complete AR, since you only have to deal with one set of import paperwork. With respect to parts import, also doable if you can source them all from one vendor like Brownells. Otherwise, filling out all the paperwork can become tiresome.

As for fit with respect to build your own ARs. Anybody who knows what they're doing can create a rifle just as well made, if not more so, than any commercial product.

The thing is I want an AR to be used for the 300m range, a tack driver (for an AR) so to speak. But with a 16" barrel.
Maybe I dont know where to look, or what to really look for, but I can not seem to find a complete rifle that fits this bill.

I have been looking on the EE, but everyone is selling theres for hardly 10% less then new, and lots for more then new because of options that are on it that I have no interest in.
I have made several offers that I thougth were fair and most dont even get a reply. But if the gun is stock, and 1400 new from wolverine then my offer of 1150 shipped seems more then fair, not an insult.

Could a lower receiver parts kit come from the US without issue? Brownells has excellent pricing on them.
