Can I bring a scope back from the U.S.?

Still, it's easy to understand why this keeps coming up. Most people think it's just firearms and firearms parts that are controlled for export. It's not intuitive to think of an optic as such.
 
You can order scopes from the states as long as the vender has the proper paper work in order. My buddy bought a Vortex in Florida a few months ago and threw it in the trunk and forgot about it. I suspect if they searched his vehicle and found it they may have confiscated it. But I have another buddy who,bought a Ruger BX 25 mag in Arizona and when going through customs he was asked if it was prohibited in Canada . As he thought it wasn't , he claimed that it wasn't and the officer let him take it through.
 
I ordered two BX 25 x2 mags from Brownels and as they were not on Brownels Itar list? They shipped them to me. About two wks later I got a letter from Canadian Customs , telling me they were being held as they are prohibited . They gave me three options,1: appeal. 2: pay for shipping back to Brownels.3: forget about them. I then called the agent involved, who was in Toronto , I believe, and after a little chat I decided option 3 was the best. I called Brownels and was told that these mags were not on any prohib or itar list , that's why they shipped them.
 
I apologize if this is a recurring question. I normally search but I'm on these forums a lot and did not see this question com up regarding optics. I'm flying down to see family and my cousin is taking me to a local show that occurs twice a month. He says it rivals the annual Calgary show. I guess all I'll be doing is tire kicking.

Check around and see if any venders has the exporting paperwork in place. Buy it and have them ship it to you.

It is well known that the BX 25's are prohib. You have to buy the Butler Creek or similar.
 
Simple answer is you can't export a scope from the US without proper permits. If the US authority catches you attempting to do this it is a world of hurt for you. Canadian side doesn't care.
