Can I buy gun from store with just my PAL #?

I am currently waiting to receive my PAL in the mail. The licence has been issued but still waiting to get the hard copy. Just wondering if I have the PAL # if I can go to a store and purchase a firearm.
 
In most stores its a no-go. Ive tried at Ellwood Epps, and Tromblays Tackle Box in Orillia. you can purchase, and they'll hold it... but you cant take it until you provide physical card.
 
Purchase, yes. Take home and possess, maybe not. If it's non restricted, as long as they can verify the PAL you're good. However I imagine they will need supplimentary ID.
If restricted, by the time the transfer is approved the card will have likely arrived.

Like all other things firearm related it varies from place to place and time to time.
