Can I fix this crushed case?? No lol

I loaded the case with 8 g of unique,patch,Cream of wheat and topped it off with a patch.

I put the loaded gun in a gun rest and tied a string to the trigger and got behind my basement door. Lol

It blew the neck clean off,went through a piece of cardboard that I had stood up,about a ft in front of the muzzle.

And as an added bonus , it blew a small hole through my garage can!!!
I think it was the neck.
 
I never tried the COW thing fired horizontal, nor within my house, but it does look like the shoulder got reformed, sort of, properly!! At least we know, now - thank you for the experiment!!! Perhaps 6 grains, or 4 grains might have worked better - is a thing though with just "one" chance to deal with it...

Yes the shoulder looks perfect, I think 4 grains may have a better chance though.
I suspect the large hole in the cardboard is from the patch and cream of wheat and the second hole in the garbage container is from the neck.
It was done outside my basement entrance door, while the wife was gone shopping., ha ha
 
You're a gamer for sure. It looks like the neck was blown off due to brittleness. Perhaps if it had been annealed first, a better result would have been achieved.

Sounds like marketing and sales people have got their hooks into you pretty deeply. I know of several ways to "anneal" cases - I would consider $200 spent on an annealing set-up to be a lot - many ways involve nothing more than what is already in my shop for other purposes.

So would I. I use a $30 propane torch like many do. Of course it's only 1/50 as effective as a $1500 rig...
 
It was annealed.
No amount of $$$ would have fixed that case as it was completely folded over around the shoulder

Ummm No.

I've seen much worse cases than that one salvaged, when cases were hard to come by.

If you have lots on hand and replacement isn't an issue, just chuck it in the disposal bin.

It definitely will be chucked, I blew the head clean off it.

It was folded over completely so if it had of straightened out, it would have been really weak in that crease.

"not new" - apparently is relative - I think of most things since 2000 as "new". Mid-1970's to 1999 about "normal". Before about 1945, I would think "old timey". I was born in 1955, so missed first half of that decade. I worked with a Welsh Electrician (in early 1980's) - where he grew up, the house they lived in was 400 years old - a miner's cottage in a Welsh coal mining town - 24" thick stone walls on the exterior. He had never been more than 25 miles from where he was born, until he came to Canada. He was astounded that we would drive 60 miles (100 km) into the city to get groceries or to see a movie. Is all relative - what is "new", what is "old", what is "far"...

Why? The metal didn't go anywhere.

The extreme cases I've saved, out of desperation, just fireformed to the chambers I shot them out of .

I’m just thinking that once it gets folded over it stretches and when you straighten it back out , it becomes weakened in area of the crease.

If it cracked at the crease, it would have a very short life.

If it didn't crack it should give a reasonably long life, especially if annealed to reduce the stress and repair the crystals.

There was probably no reasonable way to check the inside for cracks. Given the way the front flew off, I suspect it was.

No, you couldn’t see any sign of a crack but the metal had to be stressed given the complete fold.
Pulling that back out would have to weaken that ,even if it hadn’t of separated
