can i import disassembled high cap mags with the intention of pinning them?

thanks everyone. im only there for the weekend so not really enough time to get it all sorted. just gonna tell my buddy to sell them and ill buy ones here instead. few bucks saved isnt worth the hassle

Also it's CBSA's policy (not law but may as well be) to attempt to stop importation of magazines using a rivet to 'pin' them. You'd end up fighting them to get your mags back. It can be done, but it's not easy.

Does anyone have an actual reference? I called the CFC, CFO, and CBSA several times each and continually got the same answer of as long as it gets pinned when built there is no issue.

Are you looking for a ref as to why you can't legally export them from the US? That's not a Canadian rule. It's a US rule.

Check out the US Dept of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls

Hope that helps.

No, several people are saying Canadian agencies will not allow it. The way the CFC explained it is the law states a magazine capable of holding more than the legal amount of rounds. If the magazine is not assembled it can't hold anything. They did state they they need to be pinned as soon as they are put together.

Why must our laws be so much fail. You think the government doesn't want money. I I would think there is a lot of money to be made in the field of recreational shooting and hunting.

Funny thing is that it doesn't really matter. Prophet river states on their website that they have had issues with pinned mags if they are not factory pinned. If your mags are taken at the border you could fight it but it will probably cost you thousands of dollars in legal fees for your $60 mags. I doubt you'd be able to argue in court that disassembled they aren't over 10 rounds but I'm not a lawyer.

Chap in BC went to jail for importing unassembled magazines.

just read this

old case from 2003, appeal in 2009 - appeal of someone who tried to import magazines that were taken apart

ftp://ftp.citt-tcce.gc.ca/english/appeals/decisions/archive_ap2d009_e.pdf

in case you don't want to read it - basically customs deemed it prohibited. and his appeal was denied.
