Can I safely use 7.62×51mm

I bought a Savage .308 Bolt rifle. Is it safe (ok) to use 7.62×51mm as an alternative to .308 win? Are they the same thing? Can it damage rifle?

They are essentially the same cartridge but military rounds generally produce more pressure, they should be safe to use though.

Actually, the pressure limits of the two calibers are almost identical. (Commecial 308 is slightly hotter.)

Therre appears to be a big pressure difference because the pressures are quoted in different pressure measuring systems. Just as 100 kph looks faster than 60 mph. It is, but not much.

Use 7.62 all you want.
