why would you shoot a 40 cal when you could shoot a 10mm? just my opinion, but I personally prefer the 45 to 9mm but I would take almost anything almost over a .40cal personally, I really hate how frigging snappy they are, reminds me of my tokarev, I guess I always liked the original 10mm auto format then they woosied it down to .40 cal, please don't hate me, its just my opinion, but if your going .40 why not go 10mm, I know ammo is scarce and expensive but hey, nothing says Love like 200grains of hot lead flying at 3 times the speed of sound right.

Just thought id chime in on the caliber debate

So you hate something that shoots a bullet with almost as much weight as a .45 and almost as much velocity as a 9mm? Whatever, it's a free country!
I personally like my .40 cal because it's not as "snappy" as my S&W 500 Magnum.

If you have smaller hands, the 10mm might be too big. I can grip a Glock 22/23 just fine. The Glock 20.... not so much.

I never got the whole idea of 40 being "snappy" either and I'm not heavy guy by any means.
In fact I can hardly notice a difference between 9 mm and .40 out of the same platform.
Heavier 9's (124 or 147) are nearly identical in terms of recoil to .40 IMO.
It nearly feels like many people around are just repeating what they've read somewhere on the internet.

What am I missing? Convert 40 calibre to metric and you get 10mm. No?

I find a hot 10mm to be more of a "push" than my .40, which I can understand why it's being described as "snappy".

That being said, I use the .40 for plinking and keep the 10mm for wilderness carry (in the US)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i don't find .40 snappy in my m&p but I do find it snappy in a glock. (Although neither feel snappy after a box of 44 magnum). Go figure.

I'm getting my Gen4 G20 out for its first firing on Friday. Super excited.

It's not like ammo is ridiculously expensive, by the way. The Remington 10mm UMC for $32/50, or just over 60c a round. Heck, that's cheap compared to the decent quality 223 and 30-06 I'm used to buying.

You may say "Well it still costs more per round than a 9mm trigger pull", to which my answer would be "Of course it does, it's providing twice the power per round on the target, but only costs a fraction more" (500-800 lb/ft compared to 300-500).

Sure, shot placement counts, but you have to admit that it's pretty badass to outgun a 357 Magnum with a practically stoppage-free Glock semi-auto.
