Can I sight in a red dot by putting it in front of another that's sighted in?

if say I have two Aimpoint T1s, one that is sighted in and the other is not, can I sight the other one in by putting it in front of the one that is sighted in (on the rail)? The difference in POI should be very minimal right?
 
Interesting thought, never would have thought of it.

Probably good enough of a zero to get you on paper at 100 meters if everything is good quality.

Try it and let us know what happens!
 
I've used the irons to sight in a red dot when they co-witness. I think the problem you will have with 2 illuminated reticles is once they are close, it will be hard to distinguish which is which.
 
Should be pretty easy to figure out which dot is which and once they are close that is all that matters till you hit the range and test it.
Adjust the intensity so one is brighter then the other if you have to but I'd imagine that when you power up the new one you will see where the dot is relative to the other and as you adjust the optic the moving dot will be obvious till they overlap.

If the gun's action, barrel and rail are all straight and alined well I find just using the front sight (if you can see it) will get the windage pretty close.
 
Should give you a rough zero as someone pointed out. Heck, I use my BUIS to rezero my RDS if I take it off and usually gets me in the rough area, couple rnds later and I'll have my zero again. Don't see why it would be different with two RDS. Not like you have to worry about parallax etc. :)
 
I've actually done this, used BUIS, my T1 and sighted in buddies PRO.
Long story short we were doing a course and he showed up on day one with a BNIB Aimpoint PRO.. Need a quick, ruff 50yrd zero for the class with no time to do it proper.
It worked out pretty well, about a minute left at 50. Elevation was bang on.
