Can I use these primers?

When you seat a rifle primer, is it flush or below the head? If it sticks out, it will bind the cylider and prevent rotation.

A Federal primer is sensitive, so the revolver should be able to fire it ok.

I suspect the rifle primer will stick out a bit, and is NG.

Rifle primers are actually recommended for cartridges such as the 454 Casull and 460S&W. Full power loads for these cartridges operate at pressures too high for pistol primers.

LR primers and LP primers may not have the same height. The LR primers may stand proud, depending on the pockets. Reread Ganderite's post. He is an ammunition authority.

I suggest that you look up the design pressure for the 460 S&W. It is 65,000psi, and for that reason, the 460S&W was designed to employ a large rifle primer . The 454Casull is also designed for that same 65,000psi, and it was designed to employ a small rifle primer. Therefore it is not only okay to use a large rifle primer when loading for the 460S&W, it is recommended in the loading manuals to use a large rifle primer.

I totally get what he's saying.
I would never go ahead and blindly load and complete a cartridge without checking and double checking what I do, especially primer seating, case condition etc.
I will seat a primer and see what happens.
Either fits or doesn't

Thanks for sharing your knowledge.. :)

ok, so the 454 casull are small primers.
the 460 S&W mag cases and Fed Premium Rifle Match primers fit great, they seat just below, perfectly.
The 45 LC brass takes large primers. I will try them, although the rifle primers might be to much for 45LC.
just saves me the trouble of finding someone who wants to trade or buy the left over primers.

thanks all!!!!
