in my gf bush
I have a H&R model 088 3" 20g single shot shotgun can i shoot steel thou it? my gf will come duck hunting but she hates the 870 i bought the gun new it should work right Ive been told that you cant if you cant explain why please

Depends on a couple of factors:

Choke - full is not the best choice for steel
Size of shot - the tighter the choke the smaller the shot should be

So, if it is a modified choke you could likely get away with up to BB's. If it is Full choked, I would go no larger than #3.

You do run the risk of opening up the choke if you shoot a lot of steel through it, but those old nef's had pretty thick barrels. Just do not try running BBB or T through a full choke, it likely will not end well.

BTW, if your gun blows up it ain't my fault!

thanks ill tell her not to wine and use the 12g
 
This came up a month or so ago, and was just a case of misinterpretting the regulations.

Single shot shotgun with shot= OK
Shotgun shooting a single projectile=no, no
