Depends on a couple of factors:
Choke - full is not the best choice for steel
Size of shot - the tighter the choke the smaller the shot should be
So, if it is a modified choke you could likely get away with up to BB's. If it is Full choked, I would go no larger than #3.
You do run the risk of opening up the choke if you shoot a lot of steel through it, but those old nef's had pretty thick barrels. Just do not try running BBB or T through a full choke, it likely will not end well.
