I need some real input, got my first pistol 2 years ago and have been loving the sport ever since. Now I am looking to buy a 9mm, my choices are; 1. Walter PPQ M2, 2. HK P30L, 3. Springfield XDM 5.25 Competition . Here is a little back ground, this firearm will only be used for target shooting, no competion due to disability in walking. I have only shot the HK, it felt great, but doing some checking on the web, it seems to have a couple of faults for the first 250 rounds or so, stove piping and only liking NATO ammo, whatever that means. But I am a real NEWBIE, so everything is with a grain of salt. If anyone out there has either of these firearms, I would really appreciate your thoughts. Cheers to all and safe shooting. Bye the way, this is a great site.

After testing a ppq navy recently i'd say ppq m2. Better gun than the shadow (out of the box) in my opinion. Only disadvantage is accessories are hard to find for the ppq. Basically if you do not want to customize it buy the ppq. If you want to customize it buy a cz or glock.

"only liking NATO ammo" probably means it prefers +P type ammunition. The NATO 9x19 is a little more powerful than the Luger 9x19, for all they have the same exact dimensions.

Wikipedia: "The 9 mm NATO can be considered as an overpressure variant of the 9×19mm Parabellum that is defined by NATO standards. The service pressure Pmax of the 9 mm NATO is rated at 252 MPa (36,500 psi) where C.I.P. rates the 9 mm Luger PTmax somewhat lower at 235 MPa (34,100 psi). "

One of the nicest triggers is the CZ 75 Shadow. I have one and like it a lot.

Also have a Walther PPQ M1 . This is the first gun I bought and I won't be giving it up. Nice trigger, excellent reset. To me, the romantic appeal of this gun is tops. And I have never had a failure in about 10,000 rounds or so. Fits great and has a variety of backstraps to adjust to your hand size. But not as customizable. But I always buy guns that are great out of the box.

You might think outside the box and get a Grand Power K100 or excalibur. Nice shooting. I am not sure about depth of support yet. But nice guns.

I have never heard of any H&K needing a break in period. Regular 9mm should work fine--just make sure it's lubricated correctly. I'm more of a USP guy myself but the P30L is a great pistol with nicer ergonomics than the USP.

I shot an XD a few years ago and remember liking it well. I've passed through my polymer phase, though, and so never owned one

i would go with what ever gun had the longest sight radius. if your only using it for target shooting.
but if you want to have just one of them guns as a general gun. Walter all the way.

I have an HK P30L that I use for IPSC competitions. Runs flawlessly. I had zero issues within the first 250 rounds. Like any other firearm you need to clean and lube it properly before shooting it out of the box. Chances are you will have the same flawless operation I did. My wife just picked up a Walther PPQ for her IPSC gun. I am VERY happy with the HK and she is with the Walther. Here is our review on the HK and a Walther review will be done in the next few weeks.

You say target shooting. Get a nice .45 ACP. They are inherently more accurate then a 9mm, there are some exceptions but get the 45. Plus the holes in the target are bigger:p

I love 9mm caliber buth have to admit that I am a better shooter with my 1911 than my 92fs "out of the box".

I sometimes think that it's those bigger holes that make the groups look smaller ;)

Out of those the PPQ has the best trigger. Have shot a ppq, usp, never shot a P30. I own Sigs exclusively though. HK's triggers aren't the best out of box. You should also consider the vp9 imported through Irun with the aftermarket barrel.

My vote PPQ, so easy spending other people's money.

P.S. if your after the best trigger don't forget 1911's, everyone should have at least one(I'm still due for one myself).

I'm voting Hk....but I'm biased...still love my shadow so well put together......but my hk45 is awesome...gonna have to get another..

I've owned a sig sauer p229, Walther PPQ, and CZ shadow
and shots lots of others.

The Walther is fun and all but it sits in the shadow of the CZ.

I highly recommend the SP-01.
I have bought two of them off the EE with mags and holster for $700 each.
So definitely won't break the bank if you decide to go used.

If you can only have one get a Glock 17. Easy.

I have a P30L, it has run flawlessly for the 1000 or so rounds I've shot through it. Great gun, can't see myself ever wanting to get rid of it.

That being said, the Glock 17 is by far the best handgun ever made. Objectively.

There are nicer guns, but no better gun!
