Can private purchase stocks be shipped to Canada?

The short answer is that you cannot do it legally. Importing the stock into Canada is no problem at all. Exporting it from the US (you need to export it from the US if you're going to import it into Canada) is the problem.

The long answer is that this is a firearm part and therefore it is controlled under the US ITAR regulations and the exporter needs a valid export permit issued by the US Dept of State.

The dollar amount doesn't matter. The fact it is a private sale doesn't matter. Only licensed exporters can legally export firearm parts (no matter how big or how small) from the US.

If you want confirmation, visit the US Dept of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls web site ( www.pmddtc.state.gov ). They have a contact e-mail address and they do respond pretty quickly.

Just going through the hoops myself it can be done legally by going though an US exporter - under $100. the permit cost me $39. The stock will be sent to exporter, the necessary paper work will be done and then forwarded to me.

I'm using the following exporter;

Borderview LLC,
1718 NW 56th St., Suite 304
Seattle WA, 98107, USA.
Ph -1-887-947-4867

Thanks guys, if it is even a grey area I'll pass without the Export Permit. I just am not interested in ever ending up on anyones, person of interest list.

Bob, if have have a PAL/POL you already are "on a list" IMHO, you would only be complying with US / Can. rules. My problem lies in the fact that something (though gun related is not a gun) given as a gift (that could have changed hands at the border) is going to cost me at least $40 and up to $80 with shipping give or take, One has to chuckle or a least try!!!!! --- John303.

I just bought a Factory stock for a Sako 75. I bought it on ebay, guy shipped it here no problem. It was over $100.
The recommendation not to use UPS and to go with USPS, I assume is because UPS will rape you with brokerage fees.

Glad that you had no problem, and that your supplier didn't get prosecuted for violation of US federal law.
Did he choose to break the law, or was this an example of ignorance is bliss?

Depending what you are buying it may be classified as different things. I am purchasing a wood stock that the manufacturer labels as "wooden sporting goods" according to their website.

I'm going to email some stock manufacturers and see if they ship here.

Boyd's will ship to canada if the price is below $100 by USPS. They list Canada and about 25 other countries that are ok to ship to.
