I was shooting my S&W 41 .

I used Rem golden bullets @1280 fps 20% failure to fire.
American eagle @ 1260 fps 0% failure to fire.

Used those ammo separately , above are the results.I fired 200 rounds of each.

I was not happy with remington.

Finally, I tried something.

My magazine takes 10 rounds, so I alternate 1 Rem bullet and 1 AE bullet,
I have fired 300 rounds combined, 0% failure to fire.

So I tried to fire 50 more rounds of Remington 20% failure to fire.

So can somebody explain to me whats wrong with my gun.

Thanks.

I am not pistol smith but here is what I think. Remington primers maybe less sensitive and your gun has lighter hammer spring. 0% failures or remington when you alternate them with AE is probably because of small sample. This is only explanation I can see unless what you call failure to fire is actually ft feed or eject. Or head spacing prevents hammer release. Please rectify.

It is failure to fire, the dent on the primer is normal, it looks like the other fired one.

No problem when it comes to eject or to feed.

When I have alternate I fired 300 rounds, 150 of them where remington.

Sounds like you may have just got a bad batch of golden bullets, maybe its an ammo problem and not a pistol problem. Some pistols tend to be ammo specific for problems could be the dent is not the same on the rim but to minute for you to see or the rim is slightly thicker on the one for the batch you got, different tolerances.

Is this with a single magazine? Or do you have the same failure rate with different magazines? Have you tried the Golden bullets on another firearm to see if you get the same failure rate?

"Doctor, it hurts when I touch my elbow"
"Stop touching your elbow"

Stop using Remington...

I'm not going to go so far and say that all Remington rimfire is poo. BUT, I've used the standard velocity stuff on and off over the years. And it was pretty much a given that at least one, maybe two, (in a box of 50) wouldn't go off on the first strike. (Sometimes taking the cartridge out, turning it 180 degrees and re-chambering would get it to fire). On the other hand I could go through 2 bulk-packs (550 rnds each) of Federal Walmart cheapy stuff before I MIGHT get one misfire. This was in a wide variety of pistols, so I can't blame the gun. I now buy CCI .22LR by the case (5000 rnds) twice a year, and I maybe I'll get 1 or 2 duds.

Oddly, I think "Big Green" (Remington) bought out Eley quite awhile ago. So you'd think their stuff would improve. The Eley stuff is still good, it would appear to me. I've used it, but only a brick or so, and never had any problems.

Cleaning would be a good idea. can't hurt.

In the 60's I worked for CIL ammo R & D. We were sometimnes given customer complaint letters and asked to investigate. I recall getting a letter from a Mod 41 owner complaining that our new 22 ammo would not chamber properly. Marketing sent it to us because they had received several letters - all from Mod 41 owners.

Problem was, we did not have any "new ammo".

We did discover that we had changed the canelure design rolled onto the sides of the 22 bullets. That was what was causing the problem.

Moral of the story - Smith 41s are very fussy. Yours is trying to say "don't buy Remington Golden."

In a more general sense, every gun has preferences. If you were to buy a bunch of different brands and test in a rest, you would discover some brands grouped better in your pistol and some had failures to feed or fire. And your brother's pistol, one digit away on the serial number, would have different preferences.

I urge anyone interested in accuracy or reliability with any firearm to try several brands.

I have had the same problem with my SW 41 and its the AMMO because the same thing happens with my Ruger mkIII hunter.. Dont buy remington .22 thunderbolts. It is crap. When I use Federal Premium Gold medal match ammo get no failure to fire. Even when i use Winchester Dynapoints with good success and i bought them at Walmart. Just change your ammo and you will be happy...
