Can someone answer this?

man your English is better than most of the anglos on this board, me included.
welcome to the fun world of pistols. I would suggest getting down to one of your local indoor ranges and renting or trying out some guns. then pick the one that is the best fit for you. I would bet there are other gunnutz near you who would also be willing to let you try out some toys.
Good luck.

Hum yeah nice suggestions but... How could I possibly hold or try a pistol even at a shooting range, without any permit??? You see, im really NEW to the world of firemarms in terms of laws and handling =)

About the exam, they told me my results, but I have to wait for the gov to send me back that copy of exam! lol =)

Teacher said he has to send it to them, and then they will send it back to me, and ONLY then I can send my request form... But like Icefire said... =)

For your first handgun, buy a used one. That way if you decide you want something different, you don't lose so much value.
Keep your eye on our exchange forum for great deals.

You can only really compare with Gunnutz in Quebec. The reason I say this is because the Chief Firearms Officer in each province decides how the registration process will be implemented. Granted, all the applications and the database itself are in Miramichi, but all applications have to be approved at the provincial level before they can issue your license. Each province is somewhat different. Here in AB for example, you don't need to be a full-time member of a range to apply for and receive your restricted license. You can get an ATT that's valid to and from your home to any range or gunsmith in the province.

As a new shooter like yourself, you could go to Wild West at West Edmonton Mall. For the price of a range pass and the ammunition you want to shoot, they'll let you shoot any pistol you'd like to try. No need for a licence or anything. Seriously. There's businessmen who fly in from Hong Kong and don't have anything to do for an afternoon, so they go to visit the biggest mall in the world. While they're there they wander into a gun shop and end up spending the afternoon shooting. No PAL, no canadian identification whatsoever.

You might enjoy taking a short vacation to Edmonton just to see the mall and have some fun while you're waiting for your license to come in.;)

Oh yeah I forgot, anyone got helpful hints or ressources about specialized training like I was talking about before ? Thx

You don't need specialized training to work for Brinks or Securicor. The armoured car companies are always looking for a "few good men", as the saying goes. If you can drive a 5-ton truck, you've got your PAL, and you're not a physical basket case, they'll take a look at you. They need people all the time. I know, 'cause I worked there.

If you work there, you'll get training that's as good as any you could pay for in the meantime, and it's free. You don't get much training, but if you pay close attention, there's sufficient free range time for practice to sharpen your skills. Most of the people who work there are young kids starting out in law enforcement, fizzled out old cops, or people who see a chance to get some training and range time and get paid for it.

It's actually a fun place to work. But I pity anyone who makes a career out of it.

I think QC is usually quite fast. Of course there is a case by case decrepancy but overall QC is not like Ontario for Restricted PALs.

Assuming you have all the info and properly fill out the forms, you should be able to get your restricted within an averaged 4-6 weeks. If you don't have a PAL and are trying to acquire both non restricted and restricted, I think there is a minimum number of days the CFC holds your application prior to furthering the process.

If you are missing info, you can count on an additional 2-3 weeks....ie they will likely send you a letter indicating you are missing info and you'll have to call up to answer.

Course results by mail?

Up here, the student has his results in his hand when he leave the course. How do you guys do it in Quebec? are there other provinces that do this also?

Well when I did mine in march (restricted) they gave me the writen exam result, I did the pratical, he said "that's good"...
3 week later I have received a letter saying :" ######x ###### did and succed the course the march 11th as required for the pal"

The cfc told me to send the application as soon I did the cours and to send this letter after, It would be quicker.

.45Barracuda Their is 2 range in montreal that rent pistol (ctvsp and ctm) but you need to be invited and under supervision of on of their member.
