Can someone explain the prices?

So I'm just curious. I have a few bare lowers the most expensive was 225 I think. Some like aero down to 100. Then I see others with spiders and skulls and pirates and teeth I get the higher price. Engraving and making skulls etc cost money. Then I see others like Noveske with a list of 475.

I know this and others are considered boutique ars if I may and demand higher price but is there any major difference here or paying for a name or exclusivity?
 
Mainly the name. Fit and finish might be a little more consistent on the higher end lowers. They also might possibly match up to the upper a little tighter. But honestly it's just the name that you end up paying for.

If you don't care about matching upper/lower brands then it's an easy way to save some $ while doing a build.
 
In theory...

More expensive can mean:

Machined to tighter tolerances.
Machined from a solid block of billet aluminium, as opposed to a forged aluminium lower which is then machine finished.
Better powder coating/anodizing/whatever they did to make white aluminium not be white. (There's a zillion different ways to coat aluminium)
Better quality of metal (not all aluminium is created equal)
More quality control checks (less likely there will be a defect)

Aaaaannnnd.... A whole lot of other things.

Each of the above adds to cost.

In practice:

You're paying for a fancy tacti-cool flavour of the month logo engraved on the side. By and large, they all "work."

Haha I didn't realize and no I'm not him. I actually read that thread and shook my head because it's pretty obvious anything ending in 'chassis' in the gun world is expensive. I have no problem with any of the prices, I also understand that certain things come at a premium for no apparent reason (my wife always has an explanation though) and having only fondled my own lowers I wasn't up on the major differences of the higher end ones . may as well buy one and see for myself I guess lol
