I was out at the range yesterday putting some rounds on steel and paper and noticed a big POI shift between cold bore, prone and the bench. Same rifle, same load, same conditions (bench was slightly more windy with big gusts). Same thing happened with my .22lr but not with the same consistency.
The .308 cold bore and lower group were shot off a solid bench made with pressure treated boards. Not the best for consistent recoil (built with boards, so not a smooth flat surface). The second group was shot prone in the grass. I don't understand how far the group is from the cold bore and how low/ to the right it is. The prone group is pretty much right on but a little to the left of my point of aim (center of the diamond).
Has anyone else experience such a big difference in POI between shooting positions? I don't think wind could account for this. I'm wondering if it could be the sun glasses I was wearing bending the light coming through my scope. Is this possible?
I shot some .22lr at the same point of aim. The highest bunch of shots were all off a wobbly barricade at 100m and I was sitting cross-legged. The cluster of shots around the POA were all shot from the prone. Again, a big difference in POI.
