Can someone make me a range rod?

Having a helluva time finding a rod that meets my needs, I have an Enfield P53 and it has a 39" barrel.
Hoping someone can help me with it - happy to pay, of course!

I need a solid brass rod with female 10-32 threads at either end and a couple of small threaded 10-32 rods to go with it to use as adaptors.

I just bought 1/2"x24" brass round bar ... it cost $40. I would say that buying the 2 rod kits is a deal seeing that just one rod would cost about that in material alone.
 
We're talking two rods PLUS shipping, so the total ends up at almost $200 after tax. It might seem worth it at first glance, but it is adding up to be crazy.
Especially since the rod alone is purchasable for $17 in the states and nobody stocks it up here, they only stock the expensive kit with cleaning parts otherwise I'd have just grabbed the second rod!

I'd rather just pay someone to make me an undergun rod at the correct length and thread it, buy a cleaning kit and screwin palm saver separately and be done with it.

well, 2 48"-5/16 brass rods from Metals depot is $30USD each or $80CDN - plus shipping, then shipping to you one being 4' means over length packaging. lets say that only costs $20 each way ... you are at $120 - before anyone does any work. Two RMC range rods @ $50 each still sounds like a deal. Sorry... but that's how it sounds.

Your other option would be to buy pre-made rods from TOTW either wood or delrin, or you could buy just the threaded tips and some delrin rod from Acklands and make them yourself.

It isn't, necessarily. The breakdown rod is for the shooting bag when I need something compact for moving about, the full length is for the range.

Multi-part cleaning rods are around at gunstores and such. For a very long-barrelled rifle you may need two kits to have enough rod sections for the whole thing, or to extend a one-piece rod.

For pounding out a squib, I've seen brass rod at places like Home Depot, and whatever size is closest under bore diameter plus a suitable mallet should do the job. Stacking pieces could work. Chamfer all the ends.
 
Hey folks - the breakdown rod has been found.

"Latulippe" had them for $30 with free shipping over $50 so I was able to buy two for $70 after tax. Helluva lot cheaper than the $120

Now I just need to sort out the solid rod.
 
In my area we have a supplier called Metal mart, you can get lengths of brass or aluminum in any diameter you want and its easy to put on a handle and or drill and tap the end for any thread in option, you want.
 
3/8" fibreglass electric fence pole from the Co-Op has been range rod. Just found the 10/32 brass ends off the interwebs and epoxied them to it.
 
Years ago I made a range rod out of a plain cold finish 1/4" steel rod. It had a threaded end for various fittings I also made. The handle end was simply bent 90* and that served as decent enough to feel a seated ball and also good to pull for cleaning and such...
I used a brass plumbing fitting(im not to sure what it was anymore) drilled with the appropriate sized hole for the rod to pass through, and that protects the muzzle. Equally speaking, the jags/screw/pullers ect I made were also brass or have a brass collar. I didnt have a lathe, Ill I just used was a hand drill, hand tools, Hand threading tap and dies.


No steel touches steel... been using that for almost 20yrs now... I think I spent $5-$10 for the various bits and the rod...
Scrounge up at a local shop or plumbing store, home hardware (or the like independant stores, as they usually have alot of misc. stuff youll be looking for...)... It doesnt take much to make up something...
