Girlfriend bought a savage axis in .223 to come to the range with me. did not come with any optics

i am not really into the 'hunting' style of rifles so i have NO CLUE when it comes to bases/rings,etc

i realize she needs bases that specifically fit the axis, and rings that fit said bases.

but then how do you pick the appropriate rings for a scope? there are different sizes for everything.

my google skills are sub-par

looking for some direction to a one stop shop where she can pick up an optic "package" if that exists???

bases, rings, and optic. preferably under $300

thanks!

"the Savage Axis, which uses the widely available two-piece bases for “round receiver front and rear,” the same as used by Savage centerfire Accu-Trigger models."

So...there are TONS of options. You can get the standard weaver bases. You can get burris zee rings, weavers, you can get the leupold rings and bases, whatever you want!

It's probably simplest if you get the weaver bases (#46) and then add any ring that will mount to a weaver base. That's most of them.

You want a 1" ring (again, most of them) as any scope in your price range will be 1" in diameter.

I have had the low zee rings on an axis and the crappy giant high bolt handle would hit the ocular bell so I guess you're stuck with mediums.

I've also had an axis with a warped receiver so I guess I'd recommend burris signature zee rings so your scope doesn't get destroyed.

I would recommend for you:

Weaver 46 bases (2 of them)
Burris Signature Zee rings (med)
(new) Bushnell Elite 3-9x40.

That should run less than $300.

Make sure the scope fits between the rings.
The Axis has a VERY long span between the two base holes, if you use regular bases with one notch, some scopes won't fit if their body is too short. Or at least the scope will be mounted too far forward for comfort.
I installed a full length picatinny rail on mine for scope convenience.
just my 2 cents

X2

I didn't wanna buy a new base so I was lucky enough to find some offset rings that were able to work.
