I 'm new to shooting sports. I bought a new benelli supernova last weekend; and ordered a norico m14 from mastar. Now I have a trouble of finding a good range to dump more money. I live in toronto near Don Mills/401. I 'd like to find a club with rifle range and skeet/trap range. Can someone offer some suggestions? Location, membership rates, facility... anything. Many thanks for your advice.

While I have not been there myself, the popular answer to your question seems to be to check out Silverdale.

The Barrie Gun Club would be best for you. Offers all kinds of shot gun sports, handgun sports and rifle sports.

Silverdale's down in the Niagara region - but they take non-members on the weekend so you can go when you like without a membership. I've gone and they're good guys. Might be a good place to start.

Sharon Gun Club is members only or their guests. To become a member you need to buy a share, which are in short supply.

Also the Aurora Gun Club but apparently a long waiting list to join... see http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=642120

Barrie sounds good - don't know it.

One in Oshawa too.

This topic comes up a lot, so do a search but select "36 months ago" rather than the default "a week ago."

i live near you and had a hard time becoming a member at many places due to waiting lists. i was able to become member at Guelph rod and gun club and the place is great. it takes me 45 min from leslie and 407 where i work to the club at 4 pm in the day. great club

Make sure you ask lots of questions, especially if they allow you to shoot alone. Some clubs don't care and some do. Would be a disaster if driving long distances only to find out nobody is there on your day off work.

Range Burlington may be an option for you. 50m indoor heated range, 24/7 access, lots of leagues. No clays though, slug only for shotgun. Click the link in my sig for more information.

I would aviod Burlington. I was a member there for 5 yrs but left this past yr because of the new "saftey officer". Biggest ass you will ever meet.
I took a newbie friend with me and she hit the ground 25m out and he freaked. Apparently you have to be a sniper to shoot at this range now, after the 2nd time she accidently did it he suspended my membership.

If you are into handguns then target sports in Gormley ontario might be an option or as mentioned before Barrie gun club has a lot more options, but it is a distance from Toronto.

Be aware that Barrie gun club does NOT allow you to shoot alone.

I would hate to drive that far and not be able to shoot.

Nah, we just expect you to be able to hit a 675 square foot backstop (ie: "the broad side of a barn") without putting holes in the floor and roof. We also expect members to be accountable for their guests...and if they can't stop damage from occurring then its best they try a different approach or come back another day.

Pretty much the same policy at any other range. Although outdoor ranges without walls and ceilings and only a dirt field for a floor may not have sufficient evidence to enforce it.

id rather not hijack someone's thread to discuss my issues at burlington but the "saftey nazi" was flat out being racist, it was more than my friend missing a shot. I was a loyal member for over 5 yrs & love the range but after my one incident with him id rather let a newbie know what to expect with him there. You can defend the range as much as you want but the experience he provided at brrc I will never come back & advise anyone I can to never step in that place while he is there. I would have loved to lodge a complaint if i thought it would have gotten me anywhere, trust me I'm not happy i have to find another range.

We are discussing good places to go shooting in the GTA, and RB remains an excellent facility, so its not really a thread hi-jack.

We have dozens of publicly accessible email addresses and a small but well attended web Forum. PM me if you want to take a run at this with the Board and I'll do what I can to help.

Skeetgunner beat me every time Guelph Rod and Gun Club click GRGC.CA

Exactly an hour drive and all natural settings and indoor and outdoor range plus we pack few nazi's too but they are old and harmless - Biggs
