Can someone tell me what's up with RC K98's?

So where do us poor buggers who want a non RC get them.. Ive been using all my resources and cant find anything but RC's for sale or james river armory rebuilds. Im gonna settle for a RC if its the only thing i can get my hands on.. Want a ww2 bolt collection and its incomplete without a k98.

Found an original 42 k98 the other day at a gun show for 650, but the barrel was pitted and rusted.. very unfortunate, had all the origi nazi markings to.

$650? I'm not ashamed to admit I paid more for worse.

If it was an original, matching 42 K98k for 650 I wouldn't have cared about the pitted bore at all.

I've seen, had, and still shoot probably worse bores. $650 for a matching Kar98k would be a steal but you have to be careful it is not a post war re-work. Seems that detail is left out of some ads and unless you look closely, your not getting the "vet bring back" you hoped for.

Its not matching, only the floor plate and band matched. Hadnt been reblued or anything though so original era parts from what he said. Stock wasnt in good condition, fair-good at best. Swastikas were impossible to make out beneath the eagles. Headspacing hadnt been checked. He hasnt shot it, and if the bore looked better i would have bought it in a heartbeat. Im sure the bore is why it didnt sell while mostly anything else did worthy of a buy. I wish i could clean the barrel up and see how it looked after that (if its really as pitted as it appeared). Was quite the heartbreak to be sold on it until the barrel was inspected for pitting/rust.

Ah well if it wasn't matching then it wasn't that great of a deal. If you were looking for a shooter there are lots of mismatched K98k's out there with decent bores for around that price.

I wouldnt mind a mismatch given it wasnt a RC, wasnt replaced with post war parts, and decent-good-excellent bore. Anyone know where any of said k98's are?

I love my RC. Still has her waffenampt in tact, and at some point was somehow captured from its original owner.
They are historic in their own way - and if guys don't want them: good! More for me!

Just saw a bcd 43 go for $4075.00 all matching in very good condition.
The seller must be real happy.

Yep, so is my RC byf 41. Barrel and receiver with crystal clear waffenampts and two perfect dirty birds.
The rest of it is a mixmaster, but couldn't be happier. :)

After 5 pages of reading on this thread, I'll stick with my crappy m38 Turkish Mauser. Every bit as much history
, 1/8 the price, and probably every bit as fun to shoot (maybe!!) :)

Any 8mm mauser will shoot basically the same. I think RC prices have gone too far. And that fact that dealers still have lots in stock says to me, that everyone who had to have one, got one. For someone who doesn't really need one, $900 is a tough sell.
I paid $900 for a nice ce41 bolt mismatch, with sling and bayonet last april. Roughly double an RC. Would I or any other sane person pay $1800 now that RC has doubled, doubtful.
That bcd auction was insane. Two people with money wanted that gun, that's it. If you listed the exact rifle tomorrow you may not get $1500. That's the problem with using auctions to determine values.

Yep, it's the one with the sanded stock. The funny thing is it's not rare.
It's got to be a record for most money spent on a standard K98 and no wonder creeps go through the trouble of faking them.
