Can somone help me put a date to my marlin?

[Craig0ry]

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me figure out when my marlin was made? Great Gramps old gun. it has patten dates but not sure the year it was manufactured,
Marlin Safety in 44-40,
the spring broke on the tab that holds the lever shut if anyone has a line of one of those I would greatly appreciate it!

I use this site, http://www.savage99.com/dates.htm, for finding dates of manufacture.

It indicates your rifle was built in 1893.

Thanks for the link and the info

Very nice looking mod 1889. I would contact Rusty Wood for repair (contributing member here), probably have to build a spring but very do-able.

These lever springs are very easy to make. I use a piece of banding strap to make them. A pair a tin snips and a file is all you need. Here are some photos of what it looks like.
