I recently picked up a "unique" barrel for my Wingmaster on the cheap and from the answers I've received on this forum and my own research, it seems that this may very well be a Stan Baker modified barrel. It is an old Wingmaster (blued) barrel, cut down to 25" (very professionally), flared bore, threaded for Win Chokes with a white bead on the end. My question is; can I soot steel shot with this barrel?

Thanks!
Nick

Most barrels designed for "modern" shotguns should be safe for steel so long as the choke constriction is no tighter then modified. This is assuming the chokes aren't thin walled, which if they're winchokes they shouldn't be.

Why would you think it is a Stan baker bbl

It sounds reminiscent of a Baker mod.....

I am sure there were other Smith's of the day doing winchoke installs but Stan Baker was known for swaging Remington barrels and fitting them with winchokes. I used to shoot an 1100 Tournament Grade that Baker had cut back from 34" to 32", ported and installed winchokes into, lengthened the forcing cone and refinished the barrel in a matte blue. I had a Timney trigger in it as well. It was a target crusher with 3 dram 7.5 Gold Medals!
