Can,t wait to start shooting my first precision BUT???

I got my first precision rifle ready to go but its still winter time. I have some questions about shooting in the cold compared to shooting in the warm weather.
I'm planing to sight in at 100 yards. Starting load is going to be 42.0 grs. of Varget pushing a Serria 175 gr Matchking out of my 308. Temperature this week end is going to be about +9 but I will be doing most of my shooting in the summer when it's about the +20 range. How much does temperature matter when sighting in? I have been looking at a ballistics calculator and does ask for the temperature when you are shooting.
 
in my opinion @ +9c to + 20c range your fine to work up a load, I've only had problems a cold temps ie: -10c to -35c when using my summer load.

Over-rated how? I'm just curious, I use varget at the moment and to be honest haven't ever tried anything else in my .308 to date as I have had great results (with my factory Savage barrel). What other powders would you guys recommend to try for the 168-175gr bullets? I will be running a 5R rifled 22" rock creek barrel on my savage when it returns from Northshore barrels :).
 
Delete: I got nothin.

Except to say that I have seen clear indications of bullet instability using Varget when pushing the boundaries of bullet and rifling twist. When going from warm summer to very cold winter. i.e Very accurate loads in summer printed like a shotgun in -20 temps.

Varget is not perfect, IMHO.

I switched to H1000 in my 338 Lapua and I can confirm the temperature difference (cold to hot) has very little effect on velocity. However, the Varget I use in my 308 seems to have a large variance in velocity when shooting cold and hot.

H-4895 is better for .308

I don't think it is the powder that is in question here, if your at the limit of twist rate to bullet length, shoot a lighter/shorter bullet or get a faster twist barrel......pretty simple.

Do the same with an IMR Powder and see which load hits instability first.
