Can the 30-06 show enough might to drop moose.

I sometimes try to write up the stupidest things I can think of, just to see if there is someone out there who thinks I mean what I say!!!
I have written so many threads on here critical of people who think they need a magnum for moose, I have often written how deadly a 30-30 is on moose and I have stated that back in homestead, depression years, homesteaders and trappers shot moose with virtually anything that burned powder.
So when I wrote the piece saying a 30-06 wouldn't kill a moose, I thought absolutely no one out there will take me serious. In fact, I thought no one on here would be that stupid, that they thought, or would go for, a 30-06 not killing a moose.
I was wrong!!!!!! At least two people have taken my firearm knowledge to task. I am done trying to add some life to some otherwise dumb threads, for example, "is a 30-06 capable of taking a moose?" Or some such thing.

I have never shot a moose, but I have hunted a lot of Oryx (Gemsbuck) in the Kalahari dessert and I promise you it's one heck of tough animal to kill.

I have a CZ550 in 30-06.

I started off with Sako Super Hammerheads in 156gr and then switched to Hornady Interbonds in 150 gr's when they became available here about 2 years ago. I load them quite hot (3046 fps) and the only bullet I have recovered was from a frontal neck shot at a very short 110 yds. Retained weight was 135 grns.

i second the Hornady interbond, i use the 180 gr for moose, the BC is .480, a bit better than 150 gr with .415 BC
they are cheap enough to practice and also use for hunting. the last time i paid 0.45$ each.

I shot a decent sized moose this past season with a 280 AI, 140 gr TSX @ 300 yards. Got great penetration. I'd be confident with smaller cartridges too but as small as a bullet diameter I wound even consider would be 6.5mm.

The 30-06 has ample power to down moose, bang away.

Do you need a magnum for a moose, or any NA game? No, but there is no reason why you shouldn't use one if you want to!

It's a free country, use what ever you are comfortable with, provided it is legal and humane!

My old uncle Cease who was half Cree would jog into the bush 3-4 miles and carried only a single shot Cooey 22lr. He got a moose and deer every year and packed it all out himself. Never hunted with anyone that I know of. He could come up behind you in crusty snow and touch you on the back of the neck cuz it scared the crap out of us. All this in his 60s. I never saw him carry even a 30-30 but he always had meat in the freezer or in the smoker.
I wish I had been older so I could have learned a bit of his bush lore. He would laugh at this question no doubt.:)

Only magnum rifles with radioactive bullets will kill a Moose. Any less will just make them mad!

An incredible mutation has occurred during our generation causing moose to evolve armored plates making them much more difficult to kill than those our grandfathers hunted with 30-30 winchesters.
