If it was a gift Id either keep it and you can change it into a collector instead of a shooter or id return to the person who gave it to you. If you don't want to keep it and the person says to go ahead and sell it then keep the cash then ask them what you should ask for it. Seems to me it is the right thing to do.
Not posting such things on a public forum is a good way to avoid the ethics lessons.Lol why do people think they need to give someone a lesson in ethics every time a post like this comes up?
You might want to wait until we see what happens with bill C-71. I've got 12(6) on the back of my licence, and there could have been a few more 12(X)'s on the back if I had any sense. I don't know how old you are, but if you are young consider that your interests will change over time. You may not be interested in shooting it today, but that could change.
Why do you want 12.x anything? You like having money tied up in rifles you can't legally use anymore? I'd rather get compensated and have it taken away than look at it every time I open the safe and be angry that with the stroke of a pen those ####-heads that are supposed to work for us took away my freedom to use something no more dangerous than any other semi.
Just my opinion, you may like collecting and not shooting though.
Op, as rambones pointed out you have a ballpark to start pricing it, unfortunately people will be reluctant to pay a fair value for it with what is potentially coming down the road at us with regards to reclassification to prohibited.
