Can you change from piston to Direct impingement?

Hey ,
Can you change parts on a piston AR15 ,and make it a Direct impingement?

If so,what’s all involved in the process?

Remove the piston gas block & piston. Replace with a DI gasblock and gas tube(may need an adjustable if the gas port on the barrel is larger for piston guns, this I don't know). Replace BCG with a DI BCG. Alternatively, you could just swap the carrier as the bolt "should" be the same.
 
If you have a piston upper and carrier, they are balanced and built for one kind of functioning. It might be so much easier to buy a second upper.
 
I just made a trade , my rem R1 enhanced SS for a Core 15.
I’m not even sure if it’s piston or DI,I didn’t bother to ask.

But after some internet research,it appears that Core only makes piston.

But no big deal, I’m good with the trade.

Just wondering if I could swap it to DI.
 
Don't do anything until you fire it and see what the difference is. Piston is a little bit heavier, but also a lot easier to maintain.

Core15 produces DI rifle but they have some piston rifles (3 models for the 5.56). If you do get a piston rifle and decide to swap it back to DI, I might be interested in your piston kit to put in my Core15 DI.

Good choice by the way, mine has been 100% reliable and still going strong. Not many of them around

Most (all that I've seen) piston bolts don't have gas rings, some don't have the seat for the gas rings machined.
