Hello

I was wondering, I have a 12(7) Grandfathered firearm 32 acp. Can I have the barrel changed out to a 105mm 32acp so that it is then a Restricted Class firearm?
1) The handgun would have to be shipped to a Government recognized Firearms technician who would do the work.
2) Can I get the permit to ship the firearm through the mail from my home to the technician who then would do the work and send in the proper paperwork to the Government to change it`s classification?

I was wondering IF that was possible and IF there were ANY issues I should know.

Thanks for your help with this.

The short answer is no. It would still be a Prohib Class 12-6 because of the caliber. If it was changed to .380 ACP with a 105mm barrel it could be changed to Restricted. ....rigrat

Ellwood Epps in Ontario used to do a conversion from 32ACP with a short barrel to 30 Ried (Reid? Reed?), which is a 32ACP necked down to 30 caliber, with a slightly longer barrel.
I'm not sure if they are still doing this. It might be worth sending them an email.

Hardly worth it unless it is a family gun with some value, but than again ,I have some so, no big deal, now 2 in 357 and 44mag is interesting , or ones you can put in a watch pocket:redface:

If you have a 12.7, then why? You know that you can continue passing it through the family tree as long as the laws remain the same? Unless it is to sell...

I've contemplated converting some of my many prohibs to restricted, but then I wonder, "Would I just be spending hundreds of dollars to convert a prohib to restricted, only to have the government convert it back to prohibited at the stroke of a pen?"

I don’t worry about what may or may not happen. When I bought my first handgun 45 yrs. ago, the guy behind the counter said I was nuts because they were going to be banned at any time
