I can. There was a time when grouping that 1 incher was the gold with a stock 700 . Guess what. . OK bench and bags ....don't even ask now.
100 yds? I love progress I still celebrate a good group.Weigh in.

I am only happy if I learn something every time I go shoot. If I shoot well...Why? If I shoot bad...Why? I want to know why I shoot good or bad, especially bad so I learn from my mistakes. Was my range estimation off? Did I make a bad wind call? Were my reloads not up to the task? Is my rifle not up to par? Whatever the reason, if I can learn from my mistakes I will hopefully not repeat them in future outings and make myself a more knowledgeable and experienced shooter. Thats what makes me happy.

This is exactly what drives me as well, I have learned some patience in the whole process (this is good) the reason why I miss the shot and learn from what caused it is now my reward. I doubt I'll ever be great but good is pretty satisfying to me now. Plus shooting a variety of firearms to that level is reward enough.

Jack of all trades has a new meaning to me when it comes to firearms :)

Always trying to improve. The problem is the law of diminishing returns. nowadays a stock 700 5R will get you half moa fairly easily. Keep in mind that ammo has also improved to make this possible along with optics.

I find that as I age I tend to spend less time chasing perfection and more time enjoying it. I don't need the last tenth on an inch accuracy out of every rifle I own but there was a time I wore them out looking for it. And the thrill of buying new stuff is going away because i have more than i can possibly use in a lifetime already.

Ringing metal at distance is satisfying, nothing better than making the shot and hearing the ding after a delay. Or spotting the splash and bullet trace of a shooting buddy.
