Can you hard-chrome a revolver?

I have a Colt Detective Special I want to spruce up. I have heard hard chroming is very durable. I can't say I've ever seen a hard chromed revolver.

I have seen a few of them, it was a popular option back in the 70s. No reason why it wouldn't work just as well as factory electroless nickeled revolver. - dan

Hard chroming is not a "dress-up" option, its a industrial surface treatment for toughness. Not particularly pretty. They don't usually hard chrome for looks... Hard chrome goes in the barrel, nickel-chrome goes on the barrel

This is another old war horse of mine, it is a S&W M1917 in 45acp. This pistol was hard chromed in about 1989 and it has given yeoman's service since that. You cannot believe how easy it is to clean a hard chromed handgun. Regards, Richard

Hard chroming is a popular "finish" for guns due to its toughness and corrosion resistance. It is more of a functional finish as opposed to a fancy finish. But it is quite common nonetheless.
